Granny Hazel's Candy and Gifts — Local services in Westport

This "was" our favorite candy store for over 35 years!!! I have suggested it to/taken many friends/family members here over the years. We have spent 1,000s of dollars in this fun shop. Not anymore!!!!!!!! It has changed hands, and the rude staff and new higher prices have driven us away.

On our Spring 2024 trip, the young female clirk was nowhere to be found... other than her talking to someone in the back room. Finally, after several minutes, she emerged while still laughing and talking to someone behind the door. She did not greet us in any way then or after my sale.

Shocked, I watched her thumb the scale, 12 pieces of taffy came to over $8. I checked the weight at home later with a digital science scale. The top of the bag was wadded down and not folded nicely. I did not receive a "thank you/come again"... for shopping in any way. There were no other customers in the 15 minutes I completed my shopping.

Sence then, we have seen very few if any customers in the shop. I have looked in from the sidewalk over ten times the past few months. We were told by locals the shop had changed hands. It is hard to see it go downhill.

I have written 100s of "only 5-star reviews", until now!

It is my habit to comment in person if I am unable to post a 5-star review. I find less than 5 stars a waste of time for all involved. I feel giving businesses the chance to fix issues a better idea. Often, I will return in the near future in hopes of then being able to write a 5-star review.

I did try to reach out to the new owner/s by calling a week later and asking for a phone number. The person who answered the phone sounded like the same clirk. She told me she was the manager and there was no phone number for the owner.

I hope the new owners see this review and may in some way improve this...

Was in Granny Hazel's gift shop on 09/24. needless to say, most everything was closed, due to after tourist season, however, Granny Hazel's was open, remembered them from many years before, going in and getting some taffy. This experience is one I will not forget, the taffy was hard, melted to the wrapper and tasted like it had been sitting in those bins for the entire season. definitely not the quality I remembered from before. did not eat the taffy until the trip home, not able to go back and let them know of my dissatisfaction. was looking for website or email address, none to be found. This is the forum I chose to voice my displeasure. The owners are terrible people who practice a fake form of Christianity. Don't buy in to their "wholesome" candy shop facade because at their core these people are intolerant bigots who kicked out a dear and Autistic friend of mine for saying hi to people! The people we said hi to were smiling and told me personally they had no problem talking with him, but Granny Hazel and her husband were too blinded by their own prejudice and fear of loosing money to see that. They treated us rudely, kicked us out of the store and when I tried to explain that people were fine with saying hi, granny Hazel followed us down the side walk to berate us even further.
