I have been here twice. This place serves one of the best feed me in town. I enjoy Vietnamese food, and the location of this place is right in the heart of the city- Rundle street. I have had most of the items from the menu. The place is a little small but the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They manage to put on a show in the busiest of times!

Have been served the following items:

Grilled lemongrass pork skewers Marinated pork scotch, betel leaf salsa, roasted peanuts, garlic fish sauce. Juicy, soft and moreish!

Spring rolls Vegetarian rice paper wrapping, carrots, vermicelli, mushroom. Crispy with generous filling inside.

Corn ribs Fried corn ribs, house spice mix, chive powder, lime aioli. One of the most inventive starters served here. Splendid indeed!

Salmon canh chua tartare Diced salmon, sweet and sour tomato tamarin sauce, cucumber, garlic oil, prawn crackers. Again something new to my tastebuds. Loved it.

Crispy rice paper Eggplant grilled rice paper, spring onion oil, sesame, fried shallots. I like eggplant and this dish made me in love with the eggplant again.

Salt and pepper lamb ribs Slow roast & fried, spiced salt and pepper, herb salad, mint & lime sauce. Juicy ribs packed with flavour. Filling and amazing.

Vietnamese crispy fried chicken 24 hour brined half chicken, lightly battered & fried. Topped with spring onion oil & served with ginger lime fish sauce. This was again really good. Thumbs up for this dish👍

Brussel sprouts deep fried brussels, house fermented chilli, honey. Never thought Brussels sprouts could be this tasty. Again, it was wonderful.

Coconut panna cotta panna cotta, fruit, house made lotus cookie. Crunchy, sweet and well prepared dessert.

Mochi waffles with condensed milk & pandan coconut soft serve. Loved how they served it as a heart on Valentines Day. Creative...

We had the pleasure of dining at Ong Vietnamese recently for the second time in six months. I hear you thinking, “Well, that’s not such a big deal.” So let me give you some context, we live in Queensland. To say their food is scrumptious is an understatement. They take mouth wateringly delicious to a whole other level!

This visit we had Corn Ribs, Pork Crispy Rice Paper (Vietnamese pizza), Crispy Fried Chicken and Sizzling Wagyu Beef (my husband thinks but does say it was absolutely delightful whichever one it was). HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL OF THEM!! Some of our “the next time we get there” tips:

the chicken is brined, crumbed & delicious however it is a LARGE meal for one person especially if you also share in other dishes. Recommend sharing it between two with vegetarian fried rice and pho dumplings. the first time you bite into a Vietnamese pizza it’s somewhere between your mouth having a party & flavour heaven. This MUST be purchased every visit; unless you are only looking for a “snack”, it will probably need some help filling you up to dinner eaten status. Recommend (one person only) Pork Crispy Rice Paper and Apple Salad; (two people or more sharing) Corn Ribs, Pork Crispy Rice Paper, Lap Xuong (Chinese sausage) Fried Rice and Mango Coconut Panna Cotta. most of the dishes are designed for sharing - take advantage of that. Their cocktails are tasty - worth having one!

Service was very attentive (2:30pm on a weekday) and atmosphere is cozy, Viet/Asian decor with fascinating bottle and furnishing options that open opportunities for discussion. Overall, Ong Vietnamese will be a permanent addition to our Adelaide visit...

Dinner at @ong.vietnamesekitchen from a little while ago: pretty good food - very similar to Noi, of course. Enjoyed pretty much everything 😊. . Corn ribs: fried corn ribs, house spice mix, spring onion oil, lime aioli. These were fantastic! Good flavours and nothing gets stuck in the teeth 😅. . Crispy rice paper, with duck, hoisin, spring onion oil, sesame, fried shallots. I've loved this dish at Noi, and we had to get it here too. So tasty! . Pork betel leaf: wok tossed pork, coconut, lemongrass, chilli, betel leaf. Really great flavours! . Stuffed chicken wing: deboned chicken wing stuffed with chicken mince, mushroom, rice noodle with sticky fish sauce. Really loved it! Full of savoury stuff inside and a crispy outside. . Twice cooked pork belly: crispy pork belly, tamarind glaze, green apple salad. Perfectly crispy pork! Slightly unimaginative, but sometimes you just want crispy pork 😜😅. . Salt and pepper lamb ribs: twice cooked, five spiced salt and pepper, herb and lime salad, mint and lemon sauce. These lamb ribs were fantastic! Super tender and full of flavour 🤤🤤. . Crab bun rieu noodles: blue swimmer crab, thick rice noodles, tomato and herbs, wok tossed in bun rieu, butter sauce. Really tasty dish! Never had anything like this before. Lots of ingredients that work very well together. . Roasted barramundi: roasted with tumeric and coconut in banana leaf, herb salad, chilli lime. Bold flavours....

I would've given it a 4.5, but I'd rather be blunt and honest with my review, especially as someone who mainly dines in alone and likes to observe/show support to restaurants and cafe around SA. The vibe I was getting was average. As a solo diner, I was first treated a bit dismissively by the manager. I was only given an hour to dine in, which I understand since it was busy, but the manager's standoffish expressions and tone when I requested a table for one without a booking were off-putting. Fortunately, things improved when I was greeted by a lovely server (half Filipino, though I didn't catch his name). His hospitality was genuine and much appreciated. As for the food, the sizzling beef didn't impress me. It lacked flavor and was quite bland, needing more spice or seasoning. Interestingly, the vegetables were the most flavorful part of the dish. The dessert, however, wowed me. The banana fritter had the right balance of sweetness, and I found myself wanting seconds. It was that good. Overall, the service needs improvement, especially from the manager, in showing respect to solo diners. The main dishes could also benefit from better seasoning. Would I come back again? Maybe, but definitely for that banana fritter.
