DONT BOTHER IF YOUR VEGITARIAN.

Went to see a show and again booked in for dinner after seeing a large range of Vegetarian Options on the menu listed on the Net. As we have done in the past. Upon arrival found out that the menu had been changed and there were now only a couple of options which mainly consisted of a salad or light snack, we were their for dinner and a show.

Staff were very good and tried to help telling us the menu had recently been changed. The new menus were printed and laminated and available everywhere and this menu had been in place for a while. Only problem being they forgot to update the menu on the Net.

Rang up a few days later as disappointed with this and it also cost a lot for our dinner. My Salad consisting of a handful of Rocket leaves, several halved cherry tomatoes and the smallest amount of fetta cheese that you had to try to find with a microscope. The one Mushroom dish available was bland and boring and very small. (this was supposed to be dinner not a snack)

Person on other end of phone said she would pass on my concern and a Manager would be in touch, Guess what several days later no reply. Rang again, same person stated she would send an email to a Manager. Guess what three weeks later still contact from them so I rang again.

New person stated was sorry for this and a lot of staff had moved on and this email must of been lost or sent to someone who wasn't there anymore.

She then offered me a discount on my next reservation. I don't think she got the idea . IM NOT COMMING BACK.

She viewed the new menu and did agree that there was nothing suitable for a vegetarian meal ( a dinner, available) she then asked me what I would suggest so she could inform the chef. OMG, I'm now having to tell the chef how to cook. I suggested several options from the top of my head and relayed them to her. I doubt this went far.

The place is nice, the staff on the night were fantastic. THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD (to be polite I wont say what I really think)

If your planning on a meal here before you go to a show and your Vegetarian, save yourself a heap of money and disappointment and go...

Went over to have a meal since it was recommended by the Oval Hotel. With the SA Voucher used, we were informed that we would get $50 off for dining there and that we just let the Malt Shovel Taphouse (MST) know. There was some confusion since the wait staff were not sure but were looking into it and thus left my friend who ordered the food in awkward embarrassment as we had to wait. While they were looking into it, I called Oval and they informed that MLT would charge the hotel and that they would then give the $ 50 AUD discount. I queried why their Oval Staff did not inform the excuse was that they had alot of new hires who were not aware. Poor excuse and blaming new staff, actually the. blame would be in lack of training.

Bec, the MLT Manager, handled the incident well and apologised for the inconvenience. We did not think Bec should have to apologise for Oval's arrangement and lack of communication to their guests about how the $50 AUD will be deducted. Why make it complicated for the hotel guest? However, Bec's professionalism and sincerity in trying to troubleshoot as best as she could was more than what we expected. Just wanted to say thanks to Bec for her support and stellar efforts.

As for the food, it was more than plenty and loved the truffle...

We arrived at the restaurant to find it extremely noisy due to a live band playing. While I understand some people enjoy that atmosphere, it made it difficult to have a conversation over dinner. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived, so we decided to head to the bar and order food there instead.

I understand it was busy, but when we got to the bar, we were told there would be a 40-minute wait for food. I explained that we had tickets to see Beauty and the Beast at the Festival Theatre at 7:30 PM, and asked if they could accommodate us. The response was simply, “That gives you 15 minutes to eat,” which came across as dismissive and unhelpful.

It was disappointing, as I would expect a venue to be more considerate of patrons attending shows, especially when other places manage to do so during football games or other events. We ended up leaving and going across the road to the Strathmore Hotel, which was just as busy, yet we were seated immediately and had our meals within 10 minutes.

If they could manage that level of service under pressure, then frankly, your staff should be able to do the same. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this venue if you’re on any kind of schedule. The service felt slow, inflexible, and disinterested in accommodating...

The food would have got a five star rating IF the roasted half chicken was hot, it was just warm, but was tasty. Chips are 10/10. The deep fried mushrooms were the meal of our visit. Spectacular. The chicken burger was exceptional as well. We had one in our group with special needs for food and the waiter quickly write things down, so we didn’t expect the best. Her meal arrived exactly how she ordered it with all of the special requests. Well done. The only downside was the parking. It required a NASA degree of navigation and know how, only we were from Sydney, so the know how was not there. So we called the restaurant to ask how and where to park and the person who answered the phone was also extremely cryptic in where to park. In total, we probably spent nearly 30 minutes driving in and out of massive underground car parks to still find ourselves in the lobby of the Adelaide convention centre. Then it took directions from the usher to find a walkway around to this place. There in NO street parking or easy access. That is the major issue here. All in all food was terrific, service was great, accessibly was atrocious.

MALT SHOVEL TAPHOUSE ADELAIDE Located below the Dunston Playhouse in the Adelaide Festival Centre precinct is the taphouse. We first tried this place a month ago at night during the fringe festival but all the protein was sold out so we postponed until today. We arrived and was immediately greeted by a friendly waitress who asked if we wanted table service or order at the bar, great to have both options. We opted for order at the bar so we could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views of the Torrens and Adelaide Oval. We eventually ordered the ROTISSERIE 400g $45 which serves 2. Half Fleurieu free range chicken and half SA Angus scotch fillet. Which also comes with 2 sides, we got roasted cauliflower, roasted chat potatoes and paid for additional side grilled greens. Drink of choice was La Prova Prosecco. Our food came out and unfortunately it did not “WOW” me the slightest. It was loaded with oil and salt. The portion sizes we not what I would expect for the price. The vibe was great with live acoustics in the background and the views are beautiful. Looking forward to my second experience moving forward.
