The food is nice and good value, service was a bit rough around the edges though. I came during lunch hour so it was rather busy, I went to the counter and asked if I could dine in. The lady told me to wait outside and she would call me in once there was a free table, she also asked what I wanted and I replied "probably pho." I then waited outside like she asked. Around 15-20 mins later, the lady called me in, I went inside while she stayed outside talking to other customers. I made my way to a table in the corner, but the lady came up behind me and tugged on my backpack lightly, pulling me away from the table I was headed to and towards a different table she had prepared. Soon after I sat down, another lady came and gave me a bowl of beef pho. Only problem is I actually wanted a different kind of beef pho, as they have 2 kinds on their menu. I was under the impression I would get a chance to order properly once I was seated, which didn't happen. I couldn't be bothered to make a fuss so I just ate what they gave me, and it was still fairly good. I'll probably come back for the food at some point, but I don't think tugging on my backpack was necessary, especially since we should be avoiding physical contact in a pandemic, and it would have been nice if they confirmed my order with me first once I was seated, especially when there are multiple versions of the same dish...
Read moreI reckon I've struck gold with AJ Vietnamese tucked away in Brisbane CBD. If you've been yearning for a Vietnamese experience, then this little beauty is your place. It's become my regular haunt, especially when I'm gunning for the Pho Dac Biet combination. Sure, it's not Inala, or Vietnam or Springvale but mate, it's as good as you'll get for Brisbane CBD.
The menu is a delight, but my absolute go-to is the Pho Dac Biet. It's chockers with beef, offal, noodles and a broth that is nothing short of miraculous - a true soul-warmer especially during winter.
Now, I won't pull the wool over your eyes, it does get busy and there's often a bit of a bum fight for seats, a lot of workers, students and people waiting outside. But believe me, it's worth the hustle.
So, if you're on the hunt for a decent Vietnamese feed in Brisbane, give AJ Vietnamese a crack. It's perfect for the colder months when a steaming bowl of pho hits the spot like nothing else. You won't regret it, and you'll likely find yourself going back for more. "The...
Read moreThis place has been here forever but I'm pretty sure this was my first ever visit. I guess they've done well to still be standing. The place feels pretty old school and seating is tight. Food wise I'd say it's the sort of place you'd go for a dependable feed at a reasonable price.
