We were at the Westend branch on the 4/10 at around 1pm for lunch. I was looking forward to the meal as one of my Japanese friend recommended this place to me a long long time ago . Unfortunately when we walked in , no one really noticed us , finally a waitress came and let us know we can choose to sit anywhere . The place is dirty , there were at least 3-4 dirty tables !! After that , no service again …. We saw the QR code on the table and ordered the food ourselves . But we needed water, so after a few minutes we finally managed to find a waitress to ask for water . So no service since we sit down for at least 5 minutes . She realised we haven’t been served at all , she then explain how to order even though we have already placed our order a few minutes ago. The food came , we ordered grilled beef on rice , chicken karage bao bun , shoes string fries and chicken katsu curry with rice . Chicken katsu curry — I would give negative 1star I have never ever eaten katsu curry that tasted so bland ! The chicken is tough , dry , the crust is not crunchy . The curry sauce hardly got any flavor and very watery .( the crumbed chicken at Aldi and the packet curry sauce at Woolworth/Coles would have tasted much much better ! ) normally you can’t go wrong with katsu curry at restaurant but now I know you can ! chicken karage bao bun —-Bun is dry , chicken karage is ok , nothing fancy. Fries— spicy and not crunchy again …… Grilled beef —— probably the best out of all but the beef is still quite tough , so not a good cut . The sauce is tasty but extremely salty . Overalll very disappointing meal at the same time very surprised with this high reviews , feel like we are talking about different...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Birds Nest Yakitori Bar, and I must say it was an absolute delight for the senses. The Japanese yakitori experience at this establishment is unparalleled, and every dish left me in awe.
The Crispy Chicken Skin Chips were a revelation! Perfectly seasoned and wonderfully crispy, they were an addictive start to the meal that set the bar high. The playfulness and creativity in transforming chicken skin into chips showcased the culinary mastery at Birds Nest.
The Delicious Tuna Tataki was a symphony of flavors. The freshness of the tuna combined with the delicate balance of sauces made it a highlight of the evening. Each bite was a journey through layers of taste that left me craving for more.
The Pirikara Spicy Fries were a delightful surprise. The heat level was just right, and the spices complemented the perfectly cooked fries, creating a side dish that elevated the entire dining experience.
And let's not forget the Butabara Pork Belly Skewers – a melt-in-your-mouth sensation that I can only describe as culinary perfection. The tenderness of the pork belly paired with the savory marinade made these skewers an absolute must-try.
The ambiance was cozy and inviting, the service impeccable, and the attention to detail in every dish was evident. With a variety of dishes and drinks, they'll be able to cater to whatever occasion you're here for. From a nice drinks and chat with friends, to a casual first date or a meal out with your family, the ambience is just wonderful.
You can choose to a la carte if you're not too hungry and just want something to coat your stomach before downing a pint of beer (or just knowing specifically what you crave) but if you're in for a value meal, bring a friend or lover to order their one of their set meals. We went with one of the mid-tier options and was very satisfied with our meal. You really get great value for what you pay and they will feed you until you max out your stomach space before sending you off. 🤤😋
I also recommend to get a drink here. Their asahi beers on tap is super refreshing but they also stock great options like matcha beer and exotic cocktails to accommodate their many dishes. 🍻🥂🥃
Dishes I love and would recommend outside what is pictured are grilled tomato wrapped in pork belly skewer, the chicken meatballs skewer, the liver skewer (go for rare, never well done) and the yuzu chicken skewer. You can't go wrong with most of the options there but these are just ones I've found are easy to enjoy.
Service is friendly here but it is quite busy and hard to grab their attention at times. Know what you want and order in one go. They do walk-ins but can be extremely crowded at dinner time so please book ahead. Parking is hard in this area in general but very accessible via busses.
💫Tip: if you want to try the food without spending more than $15 before committing to more, come at between 11.30am to 3pm for their...
