I’ve been here a couple of times for dinner before a show, and both were fantastic experiences. The first occasion I felt a bit silly going to a wine bar as neither of us were drinking, but staff were absolutely lovely about it and very welcoming. Service and food was quick, both visits our seating was 1-1.5 hours before the show was due to start, and neither visit felt rushed.
I had the risotto with Jerusalem artichoke and sugar snaps both times, and it was absolutely exceptional - delicious and the perfect portion. The zucchini tart with fontina foam and tarragon was also a big hit for a light meal. On the second visit our party enjoyed a delightful Riesling and an elegant Sangiovese. The staff’s advice on wines was right on the money.
We were a walk in on a Thursday evening with no wait sometime between 6-6:30pm and the choice of seats at the bar or outdoor seating. When I went to make a same-day online reservation on a Friday morning my preferred time was booked out, but I joined the waitlist and got a call at 5pm offering a table.
There are a few different seating areas, with standard height tables in the banquette and outside, and high seating at the bar (decent depth and comfortable to eat at) or bar tables.
I use a wheelchair and staff were knowledgeable about what seating area might suit, including being aware that some chairs elevate to facilitate bar seating. I’m unsure of whether there is an accessible bathroom. Staff were also welcoming of my assistance dog without distracting, and offered to bring some water for him.
A really lovely place to go for dinner, and I look forward to returning...
Read moreExcellent wine list at this charming bar, centrally located in Brisbane. Good selection of wines by the glass included on their extensive list. We had a vermouth rosso to start then the Bindi 2020 Dixon Pinot Noir, which was about 3x the RRP (at Different Drop).
The food menu was concise and well curated. Starters were excellent, in my view better than the main courses. We had the $49 wagyu main: slices of beef, with a lovely sauce and scattered sorrel leaves. It doesn’t come with anything else, so you need to order sides (they had two to choose from: roasted sweet potato and an heirloom tomato salad). The wagyu main was not well cooked and left the taste of disappointment in my mouth and my two dinner guests, who had ordered it as well.
Service was good at first but became less focused as the night wore on. Musical stylings were odd: I don’t thin like tubes like REM’s Losing My Religion created the right ambiance (not that I am claiming to be an arbiter of good taste).
Having read about the bar in Gourmet Traveller, I’m not gonna lie, I had expectations that were higher than what the bar delivered. I would have expected to leave with more of a sense of joy for the $390 price tag.
Would I go back? I’d want to check out other places around...
Read moreOur date night at La Lune was exceptional. It came highly recommended from the concierge of our hotel where we were staying. Hubby and I consider ourselves foodies yet this restaurant had never come up on our radar so it was a delight to try something different.
The young gent that served us all night was very attentive and very good at recommending certain wines to pair nicely with the food we were enjoying (his name escapes me now I'm sorry!) The food was fantastic! We enjoyed a great range of entrees (this was our preference over having too many mains as we often find entrees are tastier!) The only downside was that it was Australia Day and stinking hot. We chose to sit outside as inside was very smoky and would have triggered my sinuses negatively. Towards the end of our night we were forced to go inside as the heat was becoming unbearable.
Highly recommended for a great culinary and dining experience. These guys know their wine! Will return when we get the chance. Oh and always book as they are...
