Doc Brown Cafe — Restaurant in Brisbane City

My wife and I decided to give Doc Brown Cafe a try solely based on the their mostly great online reviews, however we were extremely disappointed and dissatisfied in both the quality of the food, and to a lesser extent, the coffee. My Soy Latte was okay, but it certainly didn’t stand out from the crowd and definitely not in the ‘great’ category, but the biggest letdown for me was the food. I ordered scrambled eggs on GF toast, which is pretty standard fare and hard to stuff up, even for the most basic of cooks, but.it was probably the worst I have ever eaten in any cafe, ever. The eggs were sloppy with very little flavour, the toast was supermarket bought, there was no garnishing or condiments at all and the presentation looked like something Nanna served up in the 70’s…. Minus the taste. My wife’s avo on toast (toasted on one side only) was at least served on sourdough, with a layer of avocado spread on top, sliced tomato and a sprinkle of Dukkah. She described her meal as very bland, and again, the presentation was unimaginative and uninspired. Friendly, fast, and food that satisfies.

From the cheerful greeting as you walk in the door, to the selection of salads, wraps, toasties, baked goods and moreish muffins, DB Cafe has got you covered.

Coffee is top notch of course and the decor is a movie buff's delight. If you want a muffin, be there early as they sell out fast. Otherwise you may need your own flux capacitor-equipped Delorean.

The Doc’s coffee is excellent, consistently made with care. I’ve only eaten the breakfast basics (eggs, toast etc.) here but again it is consistently made with care and fresh tasting. But it is the community the Doc has fostered that truly shines, this is an important place in people’s lives; meeting friends/colleagues/strangers and consuming high quality food and coffee whilst receiving top notch customer service is what Australian cafe culture is all about… and the Doc epitomises that standard.
