Fables cafe is one of the best inner city cafes in Brisbane. It’s tucked into the historic and charming Princess Theatre and this gives the cafe a lot of its charm. But it’s not just the beautiful building, the staff are an eclectic mix of beautiful souls, always friendly and kind and they obviously care about making outstanding coffee and great food. The atmosphere is inner-city & alternative, i love sitting inside with the high old brick walls with local artists displayed on the walls, with soft atmospheric lighting & dark timber tables, drinking coffee listening to excellent soundtracks (Nick Cave is currently playing). The baked items are a cut above the average offering and reflect the quality and care that infuses this cafe. If you need to use the bathrooms you get the opportunity to go into the Princess Theatre foyer. I am reluctant to give this review because I don’t want more people here, but based on how busy it gets I think the secret is out about how special...
Read moreSo while spending time with my wife in hospital, I found this little gem at 4.9 stars, so great coffee for the two of us. This morning, I wanted more than hospital food and went back for breakfast. I ordered the scramble egg (shame but not shame they were out of avocado) thinking for the price it wouldn't be much. Well, the scramble came with a drizzle of oil and sesame seeds that went great with the rocket (i don't like rocket, but i ate that) and a spicy relish. All the flavours just worked. The spicy for me wasn't too much, but everyone had their own taste. The staff there are friendly and when it's not busy good to chat with. I raved about the breakfast to my wife, and she told me to stop talking about it. We'll be back after being...
Read moreCoffee is good. So ordered food once, was hungry so got a heap of extras. Resulted in a bowl barely full... obviously portions were either inadequate or they just gave me a less of the original meal. I pointed this out.. like i said i was really hungry.. - and asked for a bit more of the original meal (which had gone from like $12 to $35). A non fried version of the chickpeas and rice was brought out with the staff having their eftpos machine in hand to charge me extra for it. I just paid to save the drama. What makes it worse is i have been back for coffee with friends and the staff member who served me the meal has decided to hold on to a grudge and is continually really rude to me. I just don't want to be there now....
