Hakataya Ramen is a perfect quick, inexpensive, non-pretentious stop for a bowl of ramen and really good gyoza. A few of us wanted some ramen that didn’t require reservations, a lineup, or over the top table service - and we stumbled upon this great spot that reminded me of Dotonbori in Osaka. A really unassuming entrance leads you downstairs to a counter service point of sale where, once you order, you take a table number and sit and wait to be called. The ordering process was super quick, and there’s a small but great menu which speeds the process along. I went with the spicy miso with kaedama, and the table shared a large order of gyoza. It was fast and delicious and very authentic. The atmosphere is more function than fashion - which is totally fine, I’d just consider this more of a quick lunch / dinner stop as opposed to, let’s say, date night vibes. Would absolutely repeat!

I’ve been living in Australia for over six years, and I love exploring good restaurants. But this was by far the most terrible experience I’ve ever had in terms of taste, customer service, and hygiene. The staff didn’t bother to serve the food and just shouted the order number. The bowls and spoons were filthy with food residue still stuck on them. The soup and oil didn’t mix at all, leaving a disgusting flavor. The extra noodles were overcooked and soggy, almost like a block. Paying $20 for this was a complete waste. I will never come back here again. Honestly, I have no idea how this place has a rating over 4 stars — it makes me wonder who’s writing those reviews.

Hidden near Uptown in the Queen Street Mall, Hakataya Ramen is not only reminiscent of Japan Ramen restaurants but it delivers on the experiences and quality of food like every restaurant in Japan. The staff all speak Japanese to each other and have the distinct Japanese English accent when you speak to them, the food is very tasty and well priced and the gyoza is packed with meat. Bonus is the restaurant was playing Studio Ghibli instrumentals during my visit and it wasn’t too busy, loud or rushed. Food came very quickly and with plenty of gratitude and kindness, again as you’d expect when you go to Japan. Highly recommend!!

Today is my mum’s birthday and ramen is her favourite, specially the one from Hakataya Ramen in Queen St Mall (we’re regular customers here by the way). Usually, the service is on point and the servers are always so lovely! Unfortunately, today was the worst we’ve ever experienced here. As they have the free bowl of ramen for a celebrant, we decided to redeem that for my mum along with the other orders we have (so all together 3xramens, 10xdumplings, 6xdumplings). Initially, we received the bowls of ramen and normally the gyoza dumplings arrive just a few minutes later. However, it took 20 minutes (order paid at 3:54, received at 4:15) until we received the dumplings and it’s only one of the servings we ordered (i.e. the 6 pieces one). Not only that, out of all the bowls of ramen, the birthday celebrant’s bowl of ramen is so messy that the soup is all spilled around the bowl while the other bowls were all properly presented. If we knew that they would do that to my mum’s bowl, we would’ve rather paid and have received a proper bowl. Overall, the employees working today behaved poorly and were not alert at all. 20 minutes for dumplings and a messy bowl of ramen is unacceptable. The staff before were all very lovely. What happened, Hakataya Ramen...

Excellent food as we always love noodles but very very poor service. The staff treated us so rudely. We didn't enjoy our food (hence, Im giving it a 2) no matter how mich we love noodles. Adjust your attitude hakataya staff We went to Hakaya after Mater fun run on March 10, 2024 Sunday. Imagine it finished at the Botanical garden, we bypass so many places to eat but all 12 of us wearing pink mater fun run shirt chose to walk all the way to Hakataya because we are looove hakataya. We waited until it opened at 10am. Unfortunately the guy serving us at the counter and he was the one who opened the store as well slwas so rude. We seated in table 5,8 and 7. So many things he did wrong like shouting you have to order first! Etc don't move the table. There are so many of you. The staff could have spoken to us nicely. It's not our fault if there are 12 of us. Imagine we gave our business to you instead of eating somewhere and you didn't like it? Do you know how long we've been patronising hakataya? Most of our friends work in the city and this is our go to place. But now you just leave a bad taste in our mouth. We have never been treated so badly. So rude to the customers. If you don't like what you are doing don't open...

Hakataya Ramen review draft #11: I kept hitting the word limit and crashing maps. This is the most authentic ramen chain in Australia. It's fast, it's neat, there are like six options. You want ramen? You get ramen. 15 minute max wait. It's really good ramen. In house noodles and broth. The Karaka men has caused irreversible damage to my bootyhole. I will continue to order it every time. I may be going through withdrawal. Sometimes the place is chockers during peak lunch hour during the work week. It's popular for good reason. Definitely worth boxing joe blow in the line for a spot at the bench (don't do this in the store). Place can seat full families, dates or solo eaters. It's a real Ramen-ya, not a restaurant, don't expect silver service. That ramen goes on the bench, you pick it up and you will enjoy it (or I will find you). This is my favorite ramen place. None have beaten it. It's worth noting that this place does not serve Nitamago, though I'm pretty sure the chashu has flavor mixed in to make up for it. The nori is also shredded(excellent to mix in) and they include takana with every bowl and extra noodles are highly recommended for maximum enjoyment (they're generally...
