Called in 2 days earlier to book balcony table but when we got there there was no booking. After offering to wait for someone to finish and vacate a suitable table we were instead put in the middle on the end of a very long table set aside for large (60) booking not due yet. Very tight and had to walk right around the full length to get in and out as our end was up against a support pole. When I ordered wings with celery as per the sign was told "they should change the sign we don't do the celery anymore". Ordered one lot of Smokey bbq and another of honey soy marinade as per menu but was told "you mean sweet soy chilli" to which I said "definitely no chilli, I cannot have chilli, so she confirmed this with the kitchen who said no chilli in what we ordered". No idea what we were actually given but definitely full of chilli! My husband kindly swapped meals with me (and even he struggled with it although usually fairly tolerant) but the damage was done. Lips and tongue were swollen and tingling so I couldn't taste what I did end up eating and had to get out of there - our seating arrangement made it too difficult to get to the self serve water so we just drank a couple of glasses when leaving. 2nd time we've been there. 2nd time they stuffed our booking up. Won't be a third. Entertainment was a very talented guy on guitar, shame my mouth was burning too much to stay and listen (and they wanted us off the table anyway). Oh, and the wings are advertised for Thursday nights as "50cent wings - minimum $5" but turns out you get 7 of them for $10, so definitely NOT 50c wings. Of course you don't find that out until after you've paid and collected the order, which they call a half kilo or full kilo rather than a count. Would love to have complained but could not find anyone who seemed to know what was going on and got sick of queuing so left; miserable, disappointed and with sore mouth and much emptier purse than planned (and indigestion the rest of the night). EDIT Happened to be walking past today and it was less busy so thought it only fair to ask for manager and give feedback. He apologized for the lost booking as well as for the fact he thought he'd taken the 50 cent wings signs down as they were starting a different menu last night but clearly missed a few. He also believes we were given the wrong dish as what we ordered should definitely not have chilli in it. When I accepted his apology but explained the impact it had on our night after having looked forward to the different meal, he offered us lunch on the house to make up for it. As it was lunchtime anyway we decided to take him up on his offer and have to say he excelled! I ordered a salad and my husband went for the $12.90 lunch steak special plus we had a drink each. The meals were great and the service from him exceptional. We also noticed that a table of 20-30 people all arrived not long after us and very quickly had...
Read moreStopped in for lunch today. This is a popular spot located in Uptown. I have been here on a number of occasions often with larger groups and the service time has been reasonable on those occasions. This was part of the reason we decided to come here for lunch today.
Menu: they have a varied selection on offer. There were lunch specials advertised which we didn't take avtange of.
We knew what we wanted so we headed straight to the counter & ordered. It took almost 40 mins for our meals to come out. When we looked around we saw that most people had already been served or were finishing their meals.
We both ordered a medium rare 300 grm steak with chips and salad. My steak was cooked as requested, but my partner's had a 'medium' tag sticking out of his. I chose mushroom gravy which was served in a small ramekin. I appreciated that it came separately and didn't get mixed in with the salad. The salad was pretty basic (lettuce, cherry tomatoes and carrot) and it was drowned in salad dressing. The chips were crunchy and there was a reasonable amount. The meals were $49 each. I expected better for this price point. There was a hair on the QR code on the table which wasn't ours. It was quite off putting and made us question the cleanliness of the table.
View: we were lucky to get a table facing the street. There was music playing on the overhead speaker at a reasonable volume. We could hear each other speaking.
Bar/s: there are two bars. They put small glasses out so you help yourself to the water.
Servers: the staff looked really busy. The guy that served us even jumped behind the bar to help out. It was nice that another staff member farewelled us on...
Read moreYesterday I got back to Brisbane, after an extended trip home. Decided to meet up with some friends at Beach House to catch up. We were all having a great time, in my opinion no one was causing trouble, we were spending decent money, and had been there for at least 3-4 hours.
All of a sudden we were being asked to leave because the table next to us wasn't comfortable with how we were speaking. (Who had only been there for about 30 minutes.)
Now, I know people aren't comfortable with something like this being discussed openly, but I personally am not black, but two of my friends were.
I come from Jamaica, so I have an accent but I'm also an Australian citizen. We speak a dialect of English called patois, and I can't imagine how it would sound to someone who has no experience with it, but the fact that this man was so bothered by our presence next to him, and that the staff did nothing but support this open discrimination was eye opener to say the least.
I would never go back here, nor would I recommend it to anyone. It was the most openly racist act I have seen in a long time, and it made me ashamed to call myself an Australian citizen. If I could rate this place at 0 stars I would, and I hope my friends all...
