Hey Mr. New Farm — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Had really high hopes for this place but it ended up being overpriced and underwhelming. They unfortunately messed up my order, which is fine; it happens.

They placed my partners meal without explaining they’d be making mine from scratch. All good - I popped inside and offered to order something else from the cabinet to save the hassle and wait (we’d waited 20mins by this point). The alternative item I ordered from the cabinet to avoid my partner eating his entire meal before mine came out was lacking any flavour, and my partner’s chicken salad had a bone in it. We would’ve happily shared this feedback direct with them when we went to pay, but we were cut off when we responded to “how was everything?” By having the screen with our total price turned toward us. At $50 for 2 tiny coffees (with a dine in surcharge), a small pastry and a disappointing salad, it was not what we’d hoped for or seen...

Great staff, lively vibe, but disappointing food.

We decided to try Hey Mr. as it was conveniently located across from our Airbnb and looked quite popular. The atmosphere was buzzing, and other diners seemed to be having a great time, which gave us high hopes.

The staff were absolutely lovely—friendly, welcoming & attentive—which made the experience more enjoyable.

Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the vibe or service. It looked incredible but the açai bowl was underwhelming—frozen açai plopped on top of dry granola and too sweet to finish. The eggs Benedict was also very average, and both dishes were quite expensive for what they were.

While the café clearly has its fans, and the staff were fantastic, the food just didn’t hit the mark for us, so we wouldn’t recommend it based...

Certainly a contender for best cafe in New Farm, Hey Mr is a relatively new kid on the block with a chic fitout, leafy plants and bubbly staff. The menu is fresh, generous and exotic, and the coffee hits the spot. It doesn't seem suitable to large groups, at least inside, which suits because it's a pleasant place for a catch-up or brunch date where you don't have to yell, so you won't miss the part where your Tinder date says Hedley Thomas once made a podcast about him.
