Maggie May Wednesday Night Trivia – A Spartan’s Trial by Battle (and Fries)
Brothers and sisters, gather round, for tonight, we do not march upon the battlefield of Thermopylae, nor do we stand against the might of Xerxes' horde.
Nay, tonight we battle a far greater foe — a Trivia Night at Maggie May!
And lo, it was a test of wit, wisdom, and how many random facts about 90s sitcoms one can recall after three pints of lager (there was no mead on tap).
Trivia is hosted by Harry's Trivia.
Our company, the noble Guessperado tribe, had fought under Harry’s banner before, in both the treacherous arena of Felons Barrel Hall and the sacred training ground of Harry’s Kids Trivia (where younglings are honed into warriors of knowledge) also held at Felons on Sunday's.
But here at Maggie May? No Harry.
Our fearless general was absent, leading his legions elsewhere, leaving us under the command of Courtney.
A worthy substitute, aye, but it was not the same as having Harry.
The first wound of the night: The Registration Fee.
Harry, hear me now — why must we barter in cash or bank transfer like traders of old? Is this not the age of tap-and-go? Wherefore dost thou not allow us to pay online like the modern warriors we are?
Yet, despite the wounds, the battle raged on! The spoils of war? $200 in gold (cash), $125 in tavern vouchers, and the legendary Harry’s Squishy.
A bounty fit for the gods! But beware — Harry’s Trivia insists on marking answer sheets themselves rather than letting tables swap and engage in glorious competitive banter.
This slowed the game, sapping the fire from the battlefield. Let us fight our own battles, Harry! Let us mark with honour and mock with impunity!
No audio-visual screens. A tragedy most dire for those of us who crave bright lights and distractions to keep our mighty ADHD-addled minds focused.
But let us not despair, for there was food — a feast fit for warriors.
The fries? Crispy perfection. So divine, we ordered two more portions in tribute.
And lo, the Reuben sandwich? A culinary shield-maiden, both delicious and formidable.
And so, the final reckoning: 9 teams. We stood in 5th place. A respectable finish, though not atop the podium of the gods.
Fear not — we shall return... some day.
And next time, we shall be stronger, faster, and perhaps armed with a Reuben sandwich in each hand.
Till then, we drink, we feast, we prepare. For...
Read moreMy sister and her partner recently hosted their engagement party at Maggie May’s. While the venue itself has a lovely interior, unfortunately, that was the only highlight of the evening. Several issues arose that made the experience disappointing for both the couple and their guests.
Firstly, my sister worked with a staff member named Ellesse during the booking and planning process. Ellesse was responsive and helpful throughout; however, my sister was not informed that Ellesse would not be present on the night of the event. This lack of communication would have been manageable if the team on the night had been properly briefed, but it was clear that critical information hadn’t been relayed to the staff as they were unable to answer basic questions.
The party was catered for 100 people, yet the venue repeatedly ran out of glassware, and guests experienced long delays at the bar—some waiting over 15 minutes to be served. It was evident there weren’t enough staff to handle an event of this size.
There were also significant issues with the food service. Catered food was simply placed on one table rather than circulated, and this only changed after it was raised with staff. Some guests tried to order additional food, such as chips, but were told this wasn’t possible, even though the restaurant was still serving other diners.
I personally had a negative experience with the staff when trying to order a meal due to being pregnant and needing my own food. Despite explaining this and being willing to wait the 40 minutes they quoted, the staff member made a dismissive face and appeared unwilling to serve me. I had to ask directly if they were refusing service, and they confirmed they were. Only after my sister and her partner intervened was the request reluctantly honored.
My sister and her partner invested over $5,000 on the event, far exceeding the $2,000 minimum spend, yet the service did not meet basic expectations. Until these issues are addressed, I would not recommend Maggie May’s for events.
My sister has shared her feedback directly with the venue and to date has not received a response from them. I’m hopeful that they will respond and rectify these issues so others don’t face the...
Read moreLet me start off by saying the food is amazing and the atmosphere is great so big respects and thanks to the chefs. Sadly I can't say the same about the service and staff. Non of them looked like they wanted to be there and all except the male waiter had a up tight attitude towards me and my wife. We had a booking and once we walked into the restaurant a lady behind the bar who might I add spent 30+ mins "polishing" the same glass looked at us with a disgusted look, a look that said "what are you doing here?, you don't look like you belong here or can even afford to be here" and only really acknowledged us because I guess she had too. We were shown to our table with no instruction on how to even order after waiting for 15+ minutes they finally tould us to use the QR code to order but other guests got the special treatment of constantly being checked up on but sadly for us we just got ignored. The same lady who spent the entire time "polishing" that one glass brought us our drinks we said thankyou and she just shrugged us off and looked down on us as if she felt disgusted again that she even had to serve us. Throughout our entire time there we felt the bar lady's giving us dirty looks which is a massive shame because the food is great but the service is honesty the worst iv ever experienced. I really hope the owner sees this review and re considers who they hire as staff. After spending $155 you'd expect half decent service but no. Because of this experience I will not be recommending this...
