Ciao tutti. You need to come here when you are in Brisbane or in Queensland or just passing Earth because other than having a strong menu with a grand range of Italian dishes they also have the Gnocchi Bowl. What's that? Good question, thank you for asking. Well, it's gnocchi. Good. Hmmm good. And it's a pizza base. Yehhhhr. Cooked into a bowl. WHAT?! Then the gnocci e sauce goes in. NO WAY?! Si. Allora. Is it a gnocchi, a pizza, an open calzone, a soup, a dip, or... or... something else. I'm going with Wizardry or Magic. Si. Allora. I was very tempted to get the Gnocchi Sorrento or the Lasagna. Perhaps that will be a next time.
GNOCCHI BOWL Creamy chicken and mushroom sauce, two types of mushroom, and baby spinach. You get approx 20 gnoccho that I counted. With some decorative lettuce outside the pizza bowl. Is served on a flat plate. With shaved parmesan (reggianno I think). Each gnoccho is of the rolled style not the flat pillows. Firm with give yet toothsome. The sauce doesn't seem to have onions (I despise those... things) but it may have had garlic. Twas a tad too seasoned for me but I'm almost a no-salt-added-to-a-meal guy (at home, I mean). The pizza bowl was cooked perrrrrrrfectly. White and golden btown, the glutens activated yet retaining strength and stretchiness. Its a pull-apart experience after you eat the gnocchi. If you're like me and you get fussy about stickies on their fingies, you can easily knife n fork it. It's funny but while ordering, I adked the guy if they do doggy bags, thry do btw. Well. I didn't need one because A. This meal deserve your best appetite and B. You will not be able to not finish it all. I will never forget this meal. Thank you, Storia. As at February 2025, it's an incredible $34. NOTE: This place is busy and may have a queue. Don't be put off, it is utterly, utterly worth your time standing, waiting, and after you've eaten you can go home like I will be and having a siesta...
Read moreAt last, wonderful hot coffee can be found in Brisbane on a Saturday early evening (or any day) after 5.30pm at the ‘Storia on Queen’. The welcoming venue, with tables positioned spaciously, hugs a corner of Queen & Creek Streets. Comfortable seating and the perfect mood lighting draws your eyes towards the varied nearby architecture at this tree lined position on Queen St; a 3 minute walk from the main post office. Returning patrons of all generations have taken their places since my arrival. This adds to the reassurance the menu is assuringly satisfying and delicious. Perhaps something many of us in Australia took for granted before the ‘pre burger and deep fried take-over’. Storia’s Brisbane position is a relief from Albert Street’s often vagrant atmosphere as your heart sinks with the endless fast and faster ‘fast food’ outlets. Confused looking visitors to this Capital City wondering which end to turn on Queen St Mall. Storia cafe, ristorante and bar staff are quietly confident ensuring their visible service whilst greeting a steady stream of customers. Easy listening music being my company, I see that customers sitting nearby are relaxed and not ‘rushing off’. I have discovered my venue for escape & relaxation especially for the late afternoon option for coffee whilst a meal or a tempting well priced dessert is a further option. Otherwise, this time of the day, it’s a case of walking back towards uninviting Albert St for Lennons at The Hyatt whilst passing Intercontinental Hotel where coffee is remarkably coolish. Reminder, I am referring to late afternoon when ‘High St’ coffee etc is closed. However, Storia ticks all boxes and is now my ‘go to’ any day and time. Every day Happy Hour too 5pm-6pm. I liken coming across Storia to finding with ease the quality cafes/ristorantes/bars at the best of Sydney...
Read moreStoria on Queen: Perfection in a Flat White Tucked perfectly amidst the hustle and bustle of Queen Street, CoCafe / Storia is a truly lovely little haven that instantly draws you in. While the city rushes past its store front, the patio area is defined by elegant and incredible service—making it a required stop for any downtown coffee lover. Exceptional Service and Atmosphere What immediately elevates this café is the outstanding team. The staff are genuinely lovely, greeting everyone with absolutely beautiful smiles and providing incredible service from start to finish. It’s rare to find such consistent warmth in a high-volume city spot, but the Storia team nails the welcoming atmosphere.
My flat white was sheer perfection, and I have to give massive props to the barista for their skill. Too often in the city's rush, the milk is overworked, resulting in a disappointing, foamy cappuccino disguised as a flat white. However, the barista at Storia on Queen hit the nail on the head. The texture, temperature, and ratio were spot-on, delivering a smooth, velvety, and expertly-crafted flat white that truly deserves applause.
A Note on Accessibility If you're traveling via public transport or bike, this spot is easily accessible (my bike ride was smooth!). However, visitors arriving by car, especially from outside the city center, should be prepared. Finding parking is difficult and the available spots are typically expensive. Plan accordingly, but the coffee is certainly worth the effort. Verdict: Storia on Queen is a fantastic little cafe delivering an exceptional coffee experience backed by a truly charming team. If you appreciate a technically perfect flat white and friendly service, look no further. Highly...
