The West End was one of the first areas with which I became familiar over 20 years ago. The area has undergone a tremendous transformation, but what has remained the same is the commitment of some shop owners to providing some of the freshest ingredients, produce, and products available almost anywhere. Swiss Gourmet upholds this tradition excellently. I wanted to grab a sandwich for a late lunch and decided to drop in for a custom creation. With several bread options from which to choice, I opted for the house-made foccacia. It was thick yet fluffy with a hint of olive oil. They have different carved meats available and all manner of veggies and sauces to make your sandwich complete. To round out my lunch. I opted for a slice of Sour Cherry Pie. My SIL had this before, so admittedly, this was not a virgin purchase. The pie was tart and refreshing. The crust was flaky and buttery and nice accompaniment for my sandwich. But they have many other pastries and products to satisfy your sweet tooth. The price of your sandwich will vary by the number of condiments you want, thereby making it an expensive option if you load up on toppings. Sadly, there is no discount for adding more ingredients. This is gourmet. Not Subway!
In addition to ready to eat fare, the shop offers many different products for you to take home and prepare meals in your own kitchen. Some of those products can be seen in...
Read moreCanât believe I havenât been here before. Iâve always noticed this place but never thought Iâd try it until today. No regrets, and probably wonât be my last time either. Upon entering youâre spoiled for choice. I ended up sticking with my streak of Reubens and boy was I impressed.
As soon as I picked up the paper wrapped baby reuben I could feel the heft of it in the palm of my hand and could hear it crying to be eaten. As soon as I opened it up I was greeted by a lovely head of sauerkraut, then when I hit it from the back those those lovely corned beef lips waiting to be eaten. Thinly sliced and full of flavour, obviously the star of the show with the supplementary sauce and odd pickle. The cherry on top was that it was $12. I could cry because I know my wallet wonât have to. Staff were friendly and a delight as you would expect. Wrapped up with a nice treat of a Portuguese tart for lunch bringing the total damage to a mere $16.8 (inc cc fees). Its unique businesses like that need to stay open. Looking forward to the Tony and a custom sandwich in the coming...

I come here alot for breakfast the head deli guy has a bad temper and voices his anger
He's a young guy still maturing......its a shame where some skill sets are in place but some sentiments are missing
He got angry with me one morning for repeating my order to him in the midst of him working anry enough to come across aggressive
I've lived with gang members and bad people all of my life as I grow older I see less control in the hospitality sector where people wish to parlay their communication as an authoritive end to all means
The hospitality industry doesn't run like this it is no longer the 1980s you either level up your communication skills or better off being in a back room somewhere filleting chickens
All other staff are kind to me....since that day he now can not talk any longer with me as I told him he needs to learn to communicate better and control his anger
A shame...he's probably a...
