I booked Embers as part of a First Table Members Offer for a friend's Birthday lunch for 2. There was only an11am slot on a Sunday available and this was perfect to then spend the afternoon exploring nearby GOMA and the APT exhibition and Southbank markets. I was feeling hesitant after reading some very mixed reviews especially to do with the actual food taste, serving sizes and restaurant service but definitely wanted to try and form my own opinion after myself and my friend walking past this venue for years and always commenting how BUSY, classy & good it looked. We were pleasantly surprised on all levels with the décor, the stylish crockery, the comfort factor but above all the food, drinks and outstanding service. Although the fine dining section of the restaurant was quiet this day & basically all for us so not much atmosphere, the service and meal delivery was fast and efficient. The Seared Scallops as an entrée were among the tastiest and most perfectly cooked I have ever had. The prosecco we ordered to pair with, was light, fresh and fruity with no bitter aftertaste and had me searching for where we could buy this outside the restaurant. We both ordered the Mushroom gnocchi which was impeccable. I've ordered many a mushroom gnocchi over the years and this was one of the tastiest ever consumed, laden with mushrooms & fresh herbs & very fulfilling! I had read previous reviews stating the less than ample serving so we had also ordered 2 side dishes to accompany the main which were also perfectly presented and cooked especially the best wood roasted cauliflower at the perfect texture and flavours. In retrospect we would not have needed the extra as all meals were generous but glad we ordered as I was still full 6hrs later and did not need dinner! We were so delightfully full and satisfied we could not even manage to look at the dessert menu. A fabulous cocktail each and very attentive & courteous service especially with our Service Assistant, Maddy made this event a memorable dining experience. My only small issue was it was a Sunday so there was a 10% surcharge (includes Public holidays too) which I only saw on a sign half way through our dining experience so it was more expensive than I had anticipated. Oh and the QR Code did not work on the business card I was handed upon leaving but other than that, I highly recommend our experience at Embers based on our lunch and I can't wait to come back and bring my husband on another special...
Read moreI was absolutely embarassed to have made the decision to book a table for 6 at this restaurant to have dinner with my interstate guests. I made a 5pm booking, we were seated at 5.05pm, sat on 1 round of drinks, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited...... our waitress assured us at 6pm that our meals were only 5 mins away. "Trust me", she said. Our meals finally arrived at 6.20pm. We had no further rounds of drinks, and sat on the first drinks for almost 1.5 hours, as we waited for mains to arrive. All around us, other tables arrived after us, were seated, had drinks flowing, were served entrees, mains, and desserts, and had left the restaurant and had the table re-set, before we were ever served our mains. Then when the mains did arrive, 5 were served, luke warm. Some weren't even served as per the menu, with the slow cooked beef described as coming with king brown mushroom, greens and mash, but arriving with one small piece of mushroom, a pile of mash, and nothing green at all on the plate. The 6th dish was another 5 minute wait, and came out piping hot and fresh. So it became apparent the entire table's meals had been sitting under a warmer for an extended period of time, waiting for the final meal to be ready. A 1.5 hour wait for mains to arrive is utterly unacceptable. We were never offered dessert, just the bill. When the waitress asked how the meals were, and we offered our honest response, there was no apology. She did, however, return with a pad of paper for me to note my contact details, apparently so that the manager could call me the next day and insisted he wanted to "make it right". We left with a very poor opinion of the standard of service delivered, and so as expected, there hasn't been the promised phone call. My interstate guests left with a terrible impression of Brisbane restaurants, and I was highly embarassed to have brought them to your establishment, which promised great service and excellent quality food. I will be telling anyone and everyone about your poor restaurant, as I am sure my interstate guests have also done. I'm not sure how the manager ever intended to "make it right", since it seems his technique is to shoo us out ASAP and hope we disappear...
Read moreBy golly should of read the reviews before we visited 2.4 really goes to show the type of establishment this place is
A party of 8 and I had a table booked on a Saturday night before Cinderella at QPAC.
Firstly the server had no idea what she was doing, when we had questions she either responded with ‘im not sure’ or ‘I think so’ one of the guests had to ask, can you please ask someone else to confirm as she was giving uncertain answers. We asked her before ordering if we could do a spilt bill, she advised that we could split it and that was that.
The food, for one is extremely overpriced. It took 50 minutes for the food to come out, we asked at 6:40 where the food was as we advised we had to be at QPAC by 7:20 the latest, the same girl advised ‘yes sorry it’s coming soon’ by 6:55 our party was very stressed as the food still hadn’t come out, the manager came over and said it wouldn’t be too much longer and we were considering walking out as we didn’t want to miss the show.
The food finally came out at 7:10 which gave us about 5 minutes to scoff it down. The food was something I could cook in home economics seriously for $28 what a waste.
We went to pay and the manager had advised us we could only spilt the bill two ways half cash and half card. By now it was 7:20pm. When someone in our party stated we were told we could split it he said ‘look I don’t want to fight you on this’ in an aggressive tone. One of the rudest managers I’ve come across in my life for a party that had spent over $400 he had the attitude of someone who had somewhere else to be. He’d be better suited to working at Karen’s diner with that type of attitude.
WILL NEVER BE BACK - would not recommend staff are incompetent and rude. Wish I could give a negative for...
