I’ve volunteered here twice now, and from my very first time it was a really enjoyable experience. Even though I can be a bit shy, I’ve always felt welcome and part of the community. The volunteers are friendly, supportive, and approachable, and they do their best to make sure everyone feels included even through something as simple as a smile or eye contact. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, you’re made to feel at home. When I volunteered, the run director clearly explained my role and made sure I felt comfortable. Standing at my marshal spot, I genuinely felt like I was contributing and appreciated. It was also great to see how well the volunteers worked together and how much fun they had encouraging both runners and walkers. At the end of the event, it was easy to chat with the other volunteers and say goodbye, and I left with a real sense of connection and community. Overall, I’ve had such a positive experience here (not to mention the great view and lots of coffee shop around), and I’d highly recommend this parkrun to anyone who wants to stay active, meet new people, and feel part of a welcoming group whether volunteering or just coming...
Read moreSouthbank Parkrun is the Brisbane CBD inner city double loop course along the Brisbane River. There have been a number of variations to the route over the years, the current includes an out and back loop across the Goodwill Bridge to the Botanic Gardens, then an out and back loop to GOMA. This Parkrun has a large numbers of participants, often in the 500/ 600 or 700+ range so be prepared for a slower start, some congestion on narrow pathway sections and a short wait for token scanning. Probably not the course for those looking for a PBs, but a great event atmosphere, small rises over the bridge and up to the gardens, and a long flat finish stretch along the river. Plenty of post event coffee/ snack/ breakfast options in Southbank or across the Neville Bonner bridge back to the CBD. There is discounted undercover car parking available, check the Southbank Corporation web site for details. Southbank also has train, bus and ferry public...
