Don't eat here.
I ate here once years ago, and either remembered it being decent or forgot a previous bad experience. Anyway, recently I tried to order food.
At the counter I got ignored for a good while, after eventually getting a menu I chose a large lamb rogan josh and large rice. They didn't tell me the price just served up, there were no prices for large on any of the one menus they had available for customers to read. The container wasn't even full when the lid went on. They then spent over 2 minutes seconds completely ignoring me while trying to figure out how to charge using their point of sale, I remember looking at my phone clock and noting how wild that was.
The price was $34 for the curry and $6 for the rice, $40. The same portion at Annapurna is $29 total. I paid without thinking and slowly walked away processing my experience, went back to ask about the price and had the receipt basically punched at my face by the lady that served me. As a side note, she almost accidentally charge me nearly $400.
Cut my losses and walked away with the hope of phenomenal food. Told myself to not pass judgement without a complete set of information. It tastes ok but not like a traditional rogan josh, way too salty and less than average amount of meat. It wasn't very hot. I woke up earlier than usual with an upset stomach. I won't be back.
Every other food place nearby is vastly superior...
Read moreThe worst service I have ever experienced from Urvi or Sami (unsure what her name is because the acting manager Sewak gave me two different names) and the owner. I went to get my regular order of a vegetable samosa with a side of butter chicken sauce and was told that they would not serve me. I maintained calm and expressed my dissatisfaction with this response and asked to speak to the manager. I then heard the female employee (still unsure what her name is) screaming at high volume to the manager who was in the kitchen about my request. Highly unprofessional and intimidating behaviour. The manager then came out and told me that they could not serve me a small amount of butter chicken and that I would have to go somewhere else. Mind you I have been a regular customer for years on my lunch breaks and always order the same thing. To clarify, I did not expect the butter chicken to be free of charge, and the question of price was never raised as the staff member told me immediately that they would not provide this order. The employees then gave me two different names and the business reeks of dishonesty and poor customer service. The owner verbally abused me via private message after I posted this review on their social media page and then deleted the messages. I can guarantee I will not be returning and will tell all of my friends and colleagues about this...
Read moreHobart has its fair share of Indian restaurants, but Ganges truly stands out from the crowd! While most places in the area focus on North Indian cuisine, Ganges brings something unique to the table by serving authentic South Indian dishes as well. Naturally, I had to try their Idly and Masala Dosa, and let me tell you—being a South Indian from Chennai, I felt like I was transported straight back home.
The dosa was crispy and perfectly golden, with just the right amount of spice in the potato masala filling. The Sambar Idlies were incredibly soft, soaking up the flavorful sambar beautifully. Every bite reminded me of breakfasts back in Chennai! I was so tempted to order another plate of Masala Dosa, but sadly, I didn’t have room for more. It was that good!
The sambar and pudina (mint) chutney that came with the dishes elevated the flavors even further, adding a freshness in each bite. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking to experience proper South Indian food in Hobart.
My only regret? They close at 7:30 PM sharp, so make sure you get there early to enjoy...
