Let me state for the record, I used to eat at Hoggies in Darwin very regularly at least once a fortnight and was wrapped to hear about them coming to Launceston OK Here we go Tonight my Daughter took her mum and i out for dinner, WOOHOO Unfortunately she picked HOGS BREATHE in Launceston. here is what we ordered,
starters Garlic and herb bread Cheesy garlic and herb bread Chicken tenders with dipping sauce potato wedges with chili sauce and sour cream
Mains Rib fillet with garlic prawns Deep fried mushrooms and avocado salad chicken strips with ranch dressing Hoggie's fish and chips, 2 main serves and one Kids meal
2 jugs of soft drink
let me expand the breads had everything except any hint of garlic or herbs, however you could almost wring the oil out of them.
Chicken tenders, an expensive specific cut of chicken, however what turned up were breadcrumbed frozen and deep fried chicken schnitzels like you can buy at any supermarket for about 4 bucks a box of 6. over cooked and dry Potato wedges with sweet chili sauce and sour cream, very tasty apart from the over cooked soggy tepid potato wedges which had absolutley no flavor.
it was a rib fillet ordered RARE to MEDIUM, it turned up well done as the manager explained it was a slow cooked steak and CANT be done rare to medium,, note i ordered a Rare to Medium steak, NOT a slow cooked steak, obviously MY FAULT. the creamy garlic prawn sauce, was more like a jelly, even on a warm steak it didnt melt or move for that matter.
Deep fried Mushrooms were chewy and warm not hot Chicken strips with ranch dressing were of the same economy chicken schnitzels as were the "tenders" over cooked and served warm on a nest of golden fried crispy potato pieces, (if you believe what the menu says) again dry chicken soggy spuds.
the fish and curly fries the fish possibly drowned in the deep fryer, sometime last year, over cooked to within an inch of its life and yet still barley warm, the batter could have been used as armour plating on any military vehicle, was tough to get through even with Hoggies HUGE steak knives.
it is a real pity when the soft drinks come out to your table almost warmer than the cooked meals, flat and basically tasteless, a glass of warm tap water would have been more thirst quenching the menu price for this epicurean delight a scant $178.00 after an extensive discount of about 50 bucks, down to 126, the manager after explaining that with over 3000 meals a week coming out of this place someone is sure to complain, well maybe i am just fed up with crap food and not getting what was ordered as described and finally said enough, remember people you will get what you accept. Please Folks, do yourselves a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE as if it has the plague, however if it does has the plague it will be overcooked,and...
Read moreWent in the hope to have a fun, family friendly dinner. Order was lost in the kitchen and waited over 1.5hrs for meals (it was a Thursday night). We thought about leaving but I had promised a school holiday treat for the 4 kids I was with (11, 13, and 17x2), we hardly ever go out to a restaurant for dinner. Two meals finally came out and then after 5min the other three arrived but these three (all ordered the same) were wrong. The waitress was lovely, apologetic, and offered us each a free drink which we thankfully declined as didn’t want the family to fill up on drinks and not eat dinner - I’d already let the kids order some of the fancy non alcoholic drinks as this was a rare splurge night. After another wait, the three meals came out again, just as the first two were being finished, but were still wrong! - ordered the salad Fiesta Bowl with pulled Mexican beef but got chicken instead. None of the kids said anything as the waitress was just so lovely, we were all feeling for her and didn’t want her to feel worse - plus by now they were super hungry (despite having picked at all the curly fries from my plate served up already). She told us she would speak to the manager about a discount because of all the mix ups. Not that happy, still wanted to make the most of it and that sounded reasonable. Go up to the desk to pay at the end and was given $5.74 discount on each the three lost meals. When asked, I explained we hadn’t had a good experience, and that although the waitress was lovely even the second time the meals were wrong. The experience cost us $172.18 for a main and a drink each (with one of the kids ordering off the kids menu). We were certainly not looking for free anything when we walked in but truly, this was a rotten meal experience all round. Kids said in the car their meals might have been better if they had a dressing. No one wants to return. This is the first low review I’ve...
Read moreHaving been three times before to the Launceston restaurant (and enjoyed it) I recommended to a group of my friends that we go there. I was very disappointed that the initial opening standard has slipped back drastically! I ordered steak with calamari rings and curly chips and salad. The chips were just dried up hard little pieces that looked like they had come from the bottom of the fry basket.......I would normally expect these pieces to be emptied into the garbage bin and not put on a customer's plate! The salad, which appeared to have little if any dressing, consisted mainly of what looked like canned beans and lots of grated carrot which was dried and shriveled looking and had the appearance of what you would expect carrot to look like after being left on a plate for some hours. My husband had T-bone steak which was tough and unappealing and a similar pathetic salad. One of the other members of our group ordered a steak burger. The steak was cooked to a standard that appeared to be akin to the sole off the bottom of my shoe. I would be reluctant to return to...
