Edited Review: I originally recommended this hotel based on our initial first impression and night stay but has to amend for due to the quality of room service we received during the remainder of our stay. I have to make this clear: the hotel is advertised as 4 star but you are not getting a 4 star service. There was a day where we clearly left the "Please service my room" sign on the door as the cleaners will not service rooms otherwise. We caught the cleaning staff smoking in the parking lot who clearly saw us put the sign up. After returning from our hike in the mountains we were shocked to find our room untouched by the cleaners. We told reception right away who dealt with the matter professionally but sorted out the issue ourselves. Now on our last night staying at the hotel we returned from our day trip to Hobart to discover the remnants of last night's room service delivery of garlic focaccia with avocado dip still on the table. When we filed the complaint and the cleaner returned to the room, she argued that she pays no attention to anything else in the room and mistaked the dish for a cake claiming we would still want to eat it. I pointed out the small dish of molding guacamole to her face afterwards. Additionally, the WiFi provided by the hotel is absolute garbage. They use an archaic voucher system for login that expire well and truly before the specfications on the stubs forcing you to constantly go to desk and get more if you intend to use your internet for watching videos, uploading photos or updating apps. Upon check out, the staff have no communication skills or record of past transactions if ordering room service so we paid the waiter cash for the order on the night.. and the woman at reception tried to charge my account! We even tipped the bloody waiter for a badly made foccacia! Yup, it's an absolute joke. If you don't care about properly serviced rooms then I can still recommend the Commodore Regent for its location and price. I will definitely be checking out Country Club Tasmania instead and not have to put up with reused bed sheets, poorly made beds with cake fold level of wrinkles, badly rolled up towels in the bath room, and dirty glasses not being replaced.

Yevett - person who answered our call at 9pm when we checked in room 8, was rude and passive aggressive. We called as the internal safety lock was broken in the room’s main door which didn’t make us feel secure at all. She said her solution is to make us move to other room where the problem was same. She claimed she was in training and her boss didn’t answer her call. It has been difficult for us after a long day and with our little one. We have to stay here tonight but I dont think we can sleep at all as it felt any one could simply come in at any time from out. DO NOT STAY HERE Update - the owner who responded must have missed the photo i posted but s/he decided to respond now in public but didn’t have a courtesy to look after us when we stayed in their hotel, LOCK in the second room was not working (second photo shows no hole to get the lock working) digital lock or this or that, does not matter. Also, this place is weirdly built, different levels with stairs only so we were moving our things from one room to another with our son in the middle of the night. The kettle in the room was mouldy YUCK

We spent a few days here with my family, we booked two premium twin rooms which comes with a double bed and single bed. While my family was in the other premium twin room. We both agreed that both my double bed and my families beds both felt like we were sleeping on cardboard..i think it really needed a new mattress... It felt like you slept on the springs of the bed frame.. We ended up with very sore backs, sleeping on the beds for a couple of days, if we were lucky to sleep at all. Luckily we had a single bed too... The single bed was a little more comfortable than the double but still rock hard. The bed sheets were not the most comfortable either.. It felt very rough... I would personally bring my own as it's more comfortable and has a higher thread count.

The table and surroundings were very dusty..it felt like someone hasn't stayed in the room for a while.. We had to wipe the dust off the tables and furniture. On the last day we double checked if we left anything behind and found a sock under the bed. Probably left behind by the previous guest...

The wifi was super slow... I just ended up using my own data instead, at least it's more reliable.

Please note there are no room service on weekends... only weekdays, luckily they gave us a few more towels when we arrived on the weekend. However if you want to use your own towel it won't be an issue at all. The shower and bathroom is good size. The hairdryer is quite weak...its the ones that are attached to the wall.

On a good note it is at a very good location with plenty of parking, walkable to cafes, pubs the park is literally across the road. Depending which room you're allocated you may or may not get a view of the park.

If my family didn't already book it I would personally rather spend more money and stay at a more comfortable hotel and enjoy...

We stayed two nights and chose the accommodation based on being a convenient walk to CBD and UTAS Stadium.

Reception is unmanned on weekends, and apparently on Friday afternoons as well. We were directed by a typed notice to get the room key from a key safe in the portico.

The room was reasonably well presented, clean with all expected amenities. However, the heating system was inadequate for a Tasmanian winter. The unit was turned off at the power which meant standing on a chair and removing the front cover of the unit to remedy. The remote control was set to heat on cooling mode and cool on heating mode, causing greater confusion (and lack of heat). A sticker on the remote directed us not to change the timer setting. We were cold.

I got the mobile number provided on the notice outside reception and went back to the room to ring it, out of the cold into a marginally warmer space. I was then told to ring the caretaker on the phone in the portico (in the cold). By this stage the heating unit had duped us into believing it was working, so we let it be.

The heater cycled in and out of heat mode all weekend with no particular method and got the room to a just liveable temperature. We were forced out of the room most of the weekend just to keep warm.

The electric blankets worked well, as did the hot water. But we’d have had a more comfortable stay if the heating had been better.

Will stay somewhere...
