Came up from Hobart late and arrived to pre made booking for dinner before checking into hotel, however forgot it was Launceston Cup day. Arrived and seated for 7.30pm booking, restaurant was still fairly full of revellers leftover from the races and it was very noisy in the dining room with a group shouting and being generally ignorant of other diners. Ordered drinks and went to order meals at the same time, however was told by wait staff that we needed to hold off and wait to order as the kitchen was overwhelmed and only one chef was working with kitchen closing at 8pm. Waited a little while then meals orders were taken, and there was a wait on food coming out of kitchen due to backlog while noise levels were becoming ridiculous and you were unable to hear across the table. After some time, the meals came out well after 8.30pm and the lamb cutlet dish was so overcooked it was slightly just under burnt and so dry, the chef's cut 400 gram rib eye at $67 wasn't medium rare as ordered ( more medium well) and it was more like a sad chop at a bbq in size and appearance, then a decent restaurant quality cut and cook. And also looked nothing like the photos of the same dish others have posted previously I noticed after the fact.
The potato dauphinoise and the side vegetables were also luke warm, verging on cold. Due to the time of the meals coming out and the pressure the staff were under, we resisted the urge to send the meals back and risk waiting more time delays with a recook. We ordered a maple panna cotta to share to finish up before checking into accommodation, and this was also very bland and tasteless. We were both so disappointed with the meals but tired and just wanted to get to sleep. Next morning we did return and decided to have breakfast here, which was very good and as expected with corn and zucchini fritters and eggs florentine with salmon both enjoyed. Steak redemption was sort and found the following night further up the road at the Royal Oak Hotel upstairs bar, with a great scotch fillet cooked perfectly medium rare and twice the size and nearly half the price of the sad rib eye / bbq chop from the previous night. Overall a very hit and miss experience dining at Diverge, hotel in general i can...
Read moreMy partner and I have been spending the week in Tasmania for our elopement. Our best friends brought us a night at the verge hotel in Launceston. We decided to have dinner at diverge as it was convenient and looked nice. I ordered the fish pappardelle and 2-3 hours later I was violently sick all night long, had no sleep and felt horrible. Unfortunately this feeling didn’t pass for another 2 days, lucky I was good for my wedding but again, I was sick again afterwards and I have not been able to eat anything since Tuesday night. This was the worst food poisoning I’ve ever had and we spent over $200 with no compensation for our complaint. We should have been refunded for at least my meal considering how sick I was. The hotel in itself was lovely but would never eat there again. My partner got the $65 rib eye and all it tasted like was charcoal, it was not...
Read moreWonderful food, just outstanding quality. Came here out of convenience, but was blown away. The room is beautiful, the portions are actually quite generous, we could only have some entrees and a main, couldn't fit any room for dessert, so it ends being quite good value. For happy hour, all of the glasses of wine are $9 which is fantastic value. We had the chicken tacos and eye fillet steak which was perfectly cooked. Also had some sides to go alongside. Service was lovely, attentive. The space is quite nice but probably the lighting is quite bright so detracts a little from the otherwise somewhat intimate setting. Perhaps a more lounge type of seating for the bar would be better. The plant wall is spectacular and I saw another couple remark that it...
