We booked a table and I asked the lady on the phone I spoke to if we could sit upstairs at the large round table. No problem she said I’ll go outside and check the diary and if it’s not booked I’ll reserve it in the diary for you. We arrived 5 mins early and mentioned our booking to the waitress and she showed us to a table downstairs. I asked her about the upstairs table I booked and she said there is nothing mentioned in the booking. Strike 1. She did however say we could have the table upstairs if we liked, very gracious of her.
Before I say more our waitress Cassandra was very obliging and polite with a lovely personality.
Drinks were ordered and came promptly and we ordered our meals. I ordered the Lamb Shoulder and my wife the Vegetarian Pizza.
The meals arrived 30 mins later Lamb Shoulder as ordered and a Vegetarian Pasta for my wife which we had not ordered. Cassandra explained an error had been made in the kitchen and the cook only read Vegetarian and not the Pizza part of the order so made the Vegetarian pasta instead. Strike 2.
We rejected the Pasta dish as it was not what we ordered and I asked how long the Pizza would be. Fifteen minutes was the reply, so I asked her to keep my meal warm while the cook corrected the error as we wanted to eat our meals together. Cassandra apologised genuinely and profusely and said it would not take long.
The meals reappeared about 15mins later, correctly as ordered this time but bearing in mind we had waited ¾ of an hour to get fed. Being Monday evening It was not a busy night with a couple at the bar and two other tables beside us when we arrived. Strike 3.
The waitress again was very apologetic and explained because of the mix up with food and the long delay the drinks would be on the house. As I said previously Cassandra was very obliging and we could see also very embarrassed about the situation. We thanked her. The Lamb Shoulder and Pizza were nothing really special; Pizza not even cooked on the underside and the Lamb Shoulder not very inspiring but edible. The worst part was the painful stomach ache I woke up with in the morning after consuming the Lamb Shoulder. Strike 4.
We come to Launceston from Perth every year to visit our grand kids, and we’ve eaten at this pub/bar a few times due to it’s nice ambiance. But if you are interested to read my previous review on this establishment you will see it’s not the first time we’ve had a poor experience, but decided to give it one more try. Yes it will be the last and we won’t be returning.
Given Dale the owner of this establishment is one of the most affluent and wealthy people in Launceston you would think he could afford to provide better quality food and employ a decent cook. Come on Dale pull...
Read moreEdit: Fabulous service recovery! I pretty much had put this behind me, but the hotel ensured to reach out while I’m still at the property. Again, special thanks to Ben, you’re truly amazing. Thank you Carissa for reaching out and seeing good in my feedback. This was by no means a criticism.
Table reservation: 7.30pm, entered and sat on time, order given by 7.40pm. A portion of garlic bread is sent to the table at 8.15pm. In the meantime, the glaring lights above the table gave me a headache. I requested a female staff that we be moved because of this, she said she would check and get back to me, she didn’t.
A tall staff was the one to welcome me by name at the restaurant and the one who moved me to a different table. He was the saving grace of the whole evening.
The risotto arrived at 8.25pm, served by the manager. I requested her for spoons to eat the dish. She said ‘certainly’ and disappeared, no spoon and no check in to see if everything was okay, which is basic practise at any restaurant.
I got the attention of the tall staff, ordered dessert, had it and left. Very disappointed by the service, except for the tall guy. Food was good but wouldn’t return. Happy to discuss this further as I am staying at the hotel.
Rating reflects the service I got from the two female staff and the...

'Your food looks amazing, but we'd like to order one meal to share'
...Blonde girl serving, with a fake smile 'we don't encourage Sharing Meals' .. ?
...slightly confused.. 'so if we order one meal for the table (2 people) we can't share it'?
... more intense fake smile 'No' !! ?
... Confused .. 'Ok we'll need to go elsewhere then'
... Smiling blonde girl.. 'No problems'... Takes the menu back while asking if we'd had a nice day !?
Bizarre and Strange plus Frustrating to say the least.

Maybe Management needs to know the Captain's Calls being made by their bar staff.. Has cost a 'tester meal' and if good, most definitely reoccurring revenue. I won't return and will encourage colleagues local and interstate to do the same.
I dare anyone reading this review to ask about 'Sharing a Meal'
If they knock you back then please add to this thread and share with others... Maybe we can create a social media event 😆
Don't be fooled by the fancy photos. It's a pub, they serve food. Not hard really...
