Sneaky Tony's — Restaurant in Northbridge

My girlfriend's review:

Decided to visit Sneaky Tony's on a recommendation while visiting from Adelaide. Instantly saw the appeal based on the decor and atmosphere. We received a warm welcome and I was excited to spend my one night in the city of Perth at a nice bar. However, it rather quickly went downhill from there for me yet not my boyfriend. He was consistently asked about and served drinks, tended and chatted to, and overall very well looked after. I would give this bar a rave review if I were him. From my experience, I ordered one drink (which was good), yet wasn't asked or even acknowledged from that point onwards and, by the end, couldn't be bothered trying to catch the bartender's attention (it certainly wasn't busy on a Monday night). The EFTPOS was placed in front of my boyfriend when I was clearly paying, I was essentially ignored when asking about ordering my next drink (which I didn't), and the experience was topped off by a small yet demeaning comment from the bartender that I can guarantee would not have been said to my boyfriend. I saw another review that alludes to this place's pretentiousness and rudeness to anyone outside their obviously preferred clientele.

Overall, would not go again even if I had the chance in Perth again. My boyfriend enjoyed the place and drinks, but wouldn't either based on my experience. There are other bars around with equal 'coolness' but much better service.

Fun experience finding this place and the anticipation built having to wait 5 minutes and wondering if we had the right place after 5 minutes of pressing the button. We were let in but there was no instructions as to how service worked. Staff member just wandered off. We sat at a table and eventually figured we’d need to go to the bar but again no indication of any service area, just stand anywhere and hope to get noticed. The range of rums is very impressive. My buddy and I waited around 10 minutes for service despite being right at the bar. Only 2 bar people and one glassy. The bar people are obviously trying to create an experience in the way they make the cocktails doing completely unnecessary chipping of ice etc which is great to watch when there’s plenty of time but when there’s 7 or 8 groups at the bar waiting to order it becomes tedious. My mates order was taken and as soon as he got this drinks I went to order and the bar staff walked to the other end of the bar and started serving someone who had arrived after me. I waited probably 20 minutes again before service. The drinks were excellent and if not for the lack of bar staff we may have stayed for another round but we all agreed it wasn’t worth the frustration of going to the bar again. That’s probably a $150 order lost. They’ve done a great job on the bars vibe, fit out, drinks menu and could probably do much better with a little thought in how to quickly and fairly...

We had been looking forward to visiting this highly rated bar for weeks, but unfortunately, our experience was ruined by a rude staff member who wouldn't let us in. We had the password, but the staff member wouldn't even let us provide it before telling us that we couldn't enter and scolding us for (mistakenly) entering as other patrons were leaving.

It was incredibly disappointing to have our plans fall apart due to this staff member's attitude. We had been anticipating this visit for many weeks, and it's frustrating to have it end so abruptly and rudely. The staff member's behavior was unprofessional and unwelcoming, which is especially disappointing given the unique atmosphere and exclusivity of the bar. There were also only a few small groups inside so it's not as if there wasn't space for 2 people to get a few round of drinks.

I hope that management takes note of this incident and addresses the behavior of their staff. Yes we didn't go through the correct process (which we did unknowingly being first timers here), but there are more professional ways of addressing customers.

I hope that this review serves as a reminder that a rude staff member can ruin an otherwise great experience. We hope to return at another time to experience this place as many of the previous patrons have had the great...
