I am soooo happy to have found Chicos Mexican restaurant.

As a Latina American who literally grew up on Mexican food this is the closest I have found after living in Australia for many years.

Even the rice and beans are right .. if you know, you KNOW!!

The location is great, easy access via ferry, train or car .. or even walking! The restaurant is located upstairs overlooking a tree lined side street just across the harbour. Even the music was right!!

The food was as traditional as I've been able to find here in Australia. And we thoroughly enjoyed many different dishes in our group of three. With everyone trying something different for both food and drinks!. I got so side tracked with enjoying the food that I forgot to take photos of everything! It was a wonderful way to spend a weekend early dinner.

The service was a little slow but the drinks came out fast so we ordered two rounds ... Because "why wouldn't you!"

We will most definitely be returning very soon if not...

Nice atmosphere, but otherwise one of the worst ‘Mexican’ restaurants I have eaten at. I’ve never seen a Mexican restaurant using squirty cheese squirted all over their supermarket nachos before.

Go to Maiz or Nu’u instead which are both serving interesting and authentic Mexican cuisine.

The fajitas were literally just grilled bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms - all of which were old.

The kind of dinner you’d make if you had no food at home and just grabbed a few old vegetables from the back of the fridge.

Embarrassing to call this a Mexican restaurant. It’s basic white people idea of Mexican food.

Edit- To the brothers running this place who claim to be from NorCal - you cannot be serious in comparing yourselves to the kind of amazing Mexican food you can get over there. If you think serving basic tortilla chips, old vegetables, and tacos is ‘exciting’ Mexican cuisine then you might have forgotten what good Mexican...

Hey guys. Thanks so much. Absolutely enjoyed everything. You were so busy, booked a table for my kiddies and myself and before we got there you called to say table is ready..... we're from the central coast and after I called back to say we're running late....lost. You had a lovely staff member waiting for us downstairs. You treated us like royalty. The place was pumping and so busy but your customer service was truly exceptional. Wonderful vibe, great food and absolutely fantastic customer service. My poor husband couldn't make it but is dying to next time we're down here again. Thanks so much to you all. You've put the cherry on top of our stay. Peace âœŒïžđŸ’–đŸŒ» Happy Easter Jess, Travis...

I had been meaning to try this place ever since I heard the WingMill guys from California were opening a Mexican food joint. Chico’s happily surpassed my expectations. Fresh and zesty cocktails (had the jalapeño passionfruit mezcal marg and the blood orange marg), tasty chunky guac, and authentic street style Mexican tacos! In Sydney! They exist and Chico’s is the place to get them! The birria was my favorite but the asada and nopales were also both excellent. I’ve finally found great no frills authentic Mexican food in Australia, and I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. Ahmed and Sharif, you guys are killing it.
