Read moreNegative experience all around and I will explain why.
I booked for a party of 10 for my son 15th and nephews 11th birthday. It was our first outing as a family since tragedy struck us only a month ago.
We have been to the Bondi and Brighton hurricanes and have had positive experiences , what we love about hurricanes in Bondi and Brighton is its family orientated atmosphere so bringing our kids to this environment what we thought would be much the same.
How wrong were we as soon as we walked in the atmosphere and ambience was off , it felt like a try hard version of a posh restaurant hardly what the hurricane mantra stands for .
We made the booking for 5 or 515 I arrived on time the other guests were stuck being train and traffic delays caused by the sharks game on at the same time.
At approx 520pm I was approached by a waitress who decided this was a good time to remind me that they have another booking for 7pm and we needed to leave by then. For me this reminder should have happened after we ordered our meals not before, it puts a negative focus on our experience feeling rushed .
I was immediately taken back , in my professional life I manage 420 employees all dealing with customer service . This did not showcase any values of the hurricanes brand or the brand they claim to be in this fancy overpriced venue. I then decided as I was already feeling rushed we would simply leave.
As I was leaving what I presume to be the managers decided to ask me what was the issue as I explained I was feeling rushed and treated like a peasant I thought it best we leave.
At that time our other family had arrived , I told them we would be leaving , the manager instead of de-escalating the situation , he decided to further escalate by reminding me of my terms and conditions and that a $300 fee would be applied to my bill. What this showed was a lack of experience , a lack of class and quiet frankly a lack of respect.
Someone who is your matre de or manager or whatever this boy thought he was showed a simple act of professionalism by choosing to be condescending in the face of a negative situation.
What proceeded was me leaving my family and moving on somewhere else on my own. The birthday of my son and nephew ruined by some poor choices by the children running this overpriced over ratted establishment .
My advice for the hurricane management , choose better employees to run your front of house, provide training on how to de escalate a situation and on how to take ownership and accountability for some poor word choices.
Finally to other patrons who are looking to spend your hard earned money here. Simply DONT DO IT , one thing that has made hurricanes great on other establishments doesn't exist here. You are paying for ribs , burgers and poorly cooked pasta , it is NOT family friendly and you will keep reminding yourself you are in Cronulla not double Bay as you look at a menu which is overpriced and completely underwhelming .
My review would of given 0 stars but to be able to offer my review I was forced...
Read moreThe Good: Let’s start with the positives. Hurricane's Bar & Grill Cronulla has some good things going for it. It’s definitely all about the grill—the food is delish and plentiful. The scallops were to die for (even if a little on the pricey side for just four), but with truffle cream, avruga caviar, vincotto, and furikake, they were a luxurious bite. The calamari was fresh, the burgers super filling, and the steak? Perfect. Paired with creamy mash, sweet potato fries, and a crisp green salad, it was tender and beautifully presented. The venue itself is gorgeous, right across from the always-buzzing Cronulla Beach, and the service was spot-on from start to finish.
The Room for Improvement: Now, onto the parts that need a little TLC. While the food and presentation were impeccable, the prices were definitely on the higher side—more than you'd expect from most bar and grill spots. The beachfront location probably plays a part in that, but worth noting. Also, parking was an absolute mission. Not the restaurant’s fault, of course, but trying to find a spot near Cronulla Beach on a sunny Sunday? Let’s just say it’s not for the faint-hearted or short-tempered.
Would I Return? Sure, but with a plan—maybe on a quieter day, and definitely not when I’m tight on time or patience for parking. Living on the other side of Sydney, it’s a bit of a trek, but the food and experience are hard to beat.
The Verdict: In conclusion, Hurricane's Bar & Grill Cronulla serves up incredible food in a beautiful spot with fantastic service. It’s not cheap, and parking is a beast, but if you’re in the area—or up for a little luxury by the beach—it’s absolutely worth a visit. Just bring your appetite and maybe your...
