I visited this restaurant today and felt extremely upset with how I was treated. We live around Marrickville and always try to support local businesses, but this is the first time I had to leave a 1-star review — not because of the food, but because of the experience I had.
The owner made an effort to personally greet and chat with every other table — some even more than once. I didn’t notice it at first, until the owner kept coming back near us to greet a table right next to ours (for context, the space is really small, barely enough room for anyone to walk through, so the owner had to squeeze around our table to talk to them). It eventually became impossible to ignore, as he completely ignored our table. As I looked around, I realized I was the only Asian customer in the restaurant, and it was hard not to feel singled out because of racial bias.
Even when I went to pay, the owner was standing right behind me, looked at me briefly, and then turned away without saying a single “thank you,” even though he did so for other guests. The food itself was fine, but the experience left me feeling unwelcome and disheartened. It’s sad to experience this kind of racism in such a diverse community. I hope the management reflects on how their actions can make guests feel excluded. I will never be...
Read morePippos pizza e cucina in Marrickville is a dining experience you don’t want to miss. The squid with potatoes was bold and full of flavour, while the meatballs were tender and perfectly paired with their rich sauce. The lasagna delivered that nostalgic, traditional taste comforting and hearty in every bite.
But the undeniable highlight was the Pippo Pizza. With an olive oil base, fior di latte, spicy salami, pecorino, garlic, and a drizzle of hot honey, it’s a masterclass in balance creamy, salty, spicy, and sweet all in one. Hands down, one of the best pizzas in Sydney.
And to finish? The cannoli. Crisp shell, silky filling, and the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes for a moment. Absolutely the perfect ending.
If you’re in Marrickville, do yourself a favour Pippo should be at the very top of your list.
Not to mention the owners are an absolute delight and their customer service is second to none!!
Wish we had this place...
Read moreFinally got to try it out. At last a decent pizza in Marrickville. The atmosphere was buzzing. Greeted at the counter and was told a short wait to be seated so took my number and called soon after We had the Mt Etna and the Capricciosa. By far some of the tastiest pizza I have ever had. Stefano the guy with the handle bar moustache (the owner) talked to us through out our meal time and was very Italian to say the least. He had a good chat to my wife and myself in both Sicilian and English about all sorts of things. Really nice. His daughter was also very friendly and made sure all was good. For desert a cannoli and the chocolate cremeux which was unusual but very nice in a good way. A family business the way it should be. Will we go back again? You can count on it. If you haven’t been yet make the effort and give it a go.You won’t be...
