I came here with my family to celebrate my brothers 18th birthday. My father booked saying that he wanted 'the best steak in Sydney'. Unfortunately, we were all quite underwhelmed. Our waitress was very good to start off with. She understood our needs and gave us just the right information that we wanted when selecting our meals. For starter, we had the prawns, mussels, octopus and tartare crostini. The crostini was amazing... the prawns was the highlight. They were exceptional. We ordered a bottle of wine to share after entrees. It was an orange wine and cost roughly in the $90 range. I have had orange wines in the past, so know what to expect (I work in a restaurant that has served orange wines) but to be honest, I think it was a rip off. We waited longer than acceptable for our mains. We did not time our wait exactly but it was at least 45 minutes after our entrees were taken away. There were two fish meals (which should take a maximum of 15 mins to cook), a fillet steak and I had the slow cooked fillet. My meal came out looking rather unappetising. It was a round fillet (about a small bread plate's size) swimming in a soupey red liquid. It tasted great, but it wasn't tender and there were still 2-3 big, chewy chunks of fat in it. For an expensive, slow-cooked cut this was unacceptable. We ordered a few sides to share, but instead of the roasted potatoes we were given chips. I chose the roasted potatoes as they always bring back memories of my late grandmother, however even when they arrived they were way too spicy and not properly cooked thru.... Needless to say they were not up to expectation. We were full after dinner so I just requested a little dessert with a candle for my brother. He got a decadent chocolate cupcake which was a nice way to end the night. When paying, I tried to express to the hostess how our experience was not up to standards, but she seemed not to care. I wanted to highlight only just a few problems we had (namely having to wait too long for dinner and our roasted potato sides being forgotten) but this fell on deaf ears.
Positives: the complementary goats cheese canapes were really nice the prawns were amazing. Highly recommended the cup cake for his birthday was superb
Negatives: the price of the orange wine was not justified in my opinion they didn't have a type C usb charger for my phone, although they said they had 4 other chargers behind the counter (this is the most recent charger on Samsung phones for the last 3 years now) our roast potatoes were forgotten and when they came they were too spicy and not properly cooked thru my slow cooked fillet was underwhelming the hostess was not welcoming of my feedback some of the staff running food seemed uneasy and incompetent. They just stood at the table with hot food in hand trying to place a plate down on the table when there was space on other parts of the table
Verdict: if value for money and high quality of service is what you are after, don't be fooled. The high price tag certainly is not necessarily justified. Don't get me wrong, there is some amazing food coming out of the kitchen here, but the price point is mismatched from the experience we had. I would be up to coming here again but I would be cautious if I wanted a stress free environment and tip...
Read moreI don’t often say this but the overall experience of dining at the Cut left me disappointed. My friends and I were rather looking forward to dining at the Cut, but the quality of the food was average at best, especially considering the fierce competition amongst many other steak-oriented restaurants and general fine eateries nearby.
To encapsulate this impression, the Signature Prime Rib Cut itself, whilst slow cooked and finished to the standards I’d expect in appearance, was surprisingly lacking in the richer umami flavours that I’ve had at countless restaurants which served similar dishes, and relied upon the condiments to carry the day for me personally, of which the red wine sauce tasted as if it had a slightly burnt undertone that made it unappetising, while the horseradish cream being light and creamy as anticipated, lacked the slightly hotter finish on the palate that I was looking for after tasting many of the same counterparts prepared at other similar establishments in and around town.
The service was quite lovely, as was the overall decor and atmosphere of the restaurant, even if the music could’ve been slightly quieter for an even improved experience. The front of house did their best to accomodate the dietary requirements of one of our friends, but as the last review pointed out, the pacing between the various dishes was a bit disappointing, with long gaps between dishes at times, and our Signature Prime Rib Cut was served at the last minute as if it had been forgotten. Fortunately we had an excellent wait staff at our table who picked up on it and ushered the kitchen to have it rushed out promptly as a priority.
In summary, for the price charged, I was expecting more and left feeling rather let down. Given the declining economic state of the fine dining sector currently, as many who frequent such establishments are well aware, this may spell trouble down the line for the restaurant. It’s not my intention to speak ill of anyone without justification, but I’d say that the restaurant has a lot of room for improvement and much to rectify if it is to survive the tepid consumer economy going forward in the near future, especially if the joint wants to hold onto repeat clientele that are...
Read moreThis was our first experience at The Cut and was not disappointed. Want to start off by giving a big shout out to the gentleman who served us all night, Hank. Consider yourself lucky if Hank is working when you dine here and you are in his section. Professional, knowledgeable, funny, and was always on point with the service he provided. Never left waiting too long and always knew exactly when to approach the table at the right time. It would be a pleasure to be served by him again.
We started off with getting two cocktails. The price is a little on the high side, but they have the quality and taste in them to back up the price. Entrees we had two of the scallops in Kombu butter and the Wood Fire Bone Marrow with Morels. Once again, the quality or the dishes were without fault and we really enjoyed them, but they weren't the highlight of the night.
Mains came out next and we ordered their signature cut 450g. It really was quite different to my expectations. Came out on a trolley and was cut infront of us and served on a plate and sauced. The meat literally fell apart and was so tasty. The beef is well worth the it and filled us up. However the absolute highlight was the sides. We got a Cacio E Pepe Mac and Cheese and an Iceburg Wedge Salad and they were delicious. The dressing on the Iceburg especially just really went so well with the beef.
We were so full we unfortunately had no room for dessert which we would have loved to try since the rest of the meal was exceptional but we did still get a nip of their signature Woodford Double Barrel which was brought out on a trolley for us to choose along with many other fantastic bourbons and digestifs.
I wouldn't be able to bring a single fault to the experience at all. Highly recommend to everyone and will be on my list of places in Sydney to recommend to...
