Quietly tucked away on a side street near my hotel, I wasn't sure it was the right place for me to grab a late dinner from viewing some of the reviews and decor (seemed a bit stuffy and cramped). But it wasn't too crowded, and the "Vienna" dinner special (clear beef soup, wiener schnitzel, and homemade apple strudel) drew me in.
The service was quick and friendly, and after a brief bit of confusion about what I was ordering, the food started arriving. The soup was a very good starter since it was cold out and a little damp from rain. It was hot and tasty. The schnitzel was just so-so compared to many others I've had, it just didn't stand out in any way. It came with a side of potatoes which were slightly sweet. The strudel was good, and a lot hotter than I expected, and came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some whipped cream.
Overall I'd give it 3 stars for the food and service. Not sure I'd pick this place given how many other restaurants are in the area, but wouldn't complain if someone wanted...
Read moreWhere to begin? The food on the menu looks promising however in reality it disappoints on every level possible. The clear beef soup I ordered had the taste of those cubes you make "soup" from and the added cheese dumplings did not taste of cheese. For main I ordered their signature dish The Kuckuck, which was veal with blue cheese in a white wine sauce. The portion was small, the blue cheese overpowering and the meat forgettable. They offered seven, I repeat seven pieces of roast potatoes with rosemary with it. We made the mistake to not look for reviews as we stumbled on this restaurant by chance, as we were hungry after a day exploring the city. They will charge the service fee directly to your bill, which has added another 30% or so to our bill which was an absolute shock after the subpar food. A place to be avoided...
Read moreIn 2 words: Terrible and disrespectful. We reserved here one day in advance at 9pm. We arrived at 8.40pm, got seated 30 mins after while the restaurant was half empty. The restaurant smelled like strong and smelly cheese, too strong. Could put a ventilation system to better aire the restaurant. Of all the plates that there were on the menu (like 30+) only 3 were available. We ordered a fondue and went out to smoke a cigarette. We came back inside and after 30 mins the guy came back to tell us it has finished. Pretty pissed off we ordered the unique plate that was available (potatoes and raclette cheese) and the sweet potatoes soup (which turned out to be some sort of liquid with some herbs and nothing inside) which we waited other 30 minutes for. The situation was getting embarrassing. Overpriced and terrible service....
