Many many thanks to Karl and Elfriede! The food was yummy 😋 beyond doubt. Here, I would also like to share a story of their kindness and compassion. My family and I were in Vienna for New Years. It was New Year's Eve, we had arrived in Vienna a day before and were not very familiar with the city and restaurants yet. I am vegetarian and gluten free, and we were looking for a place to eat, little did we know that if you don't have reservations on New Years Eve, it may be hard to find a table for five. We waked by their restaurant and I was happy to see vegetarian and gluten free, ( I was starving as we had walked over 7-8 miles that day). Anyways, we walked in but unfortunately they were full and couldn't accommodate five people. They were very sorry! I was sad and hungry , but I asked Karl can I have take out instead. He was very kind and said sure!! I was so happy 😁 and relieved! I could see they were very busy, all tables were full. Anyways, I waited patiently and he got me a gluten free snack ( cracker with a spread), it was yummy!! Then he brought my food in a bag, soup and vegs with risotto and told me happy new year!! I asked him how much I owe, he said nothing, enjoy your meal and happy new year!! He was so kind and compassionate, I can never forget. We chatted briefly, I thanked him again and said we will visit again. I went back with my family but the restaurant was closed for a week, and we had to leave Vienna before that. This whole experience and the act of kindness from a stranger is what I kept on remembering. We enjoyed our stay in Vienna and met many nice people. I love ❤️ Vienna and the people there and would definitely go back, and hopefully will be able to eat at their restaurant!! I wanted to share my experience and thank Lebenbauer's again ! One of the best New Years I had!!👍🏻👍🏻 This world is still full of kindest people, happy new year all!! If you go to Vienna, try to eat here if you...
Read moreI visited Vienna from Tokyo, Japan to see opera in April and November 2024. At white asparagus season, based on our Japanese tour guidebook, we chose this restaurant for dinner. Fresh and delicately prepared asparagus salad (photo)was very tasty, worthwhile coming from the Far East. Samon was also good. In November I revisited this restaurant alone for lunch. Today’s fish menu for 2 courses was more than enough (photos). The rate was reasonable by Austrian standard (not for me due to our extremely weak currency, though). Booking was easily done both times. In April due to the sudden and lastminute cancellation of Austrian Airways flight (as always!), we couldn’t make it on a promised time. Our hotel concierge kindly asked them to delay our arrival, and we were warmly welcomed. This time in November, although I was a solo guest, the staffer kindly prepared my place. Often in Europe, colored guests are put at uncomfortable seats, such as those near the toilet or the entrance. It was a less busy time, but here I felt I was equally treated by the whole staff as each of them said “hello” to me with nice smile. So not only the food but also the atmosphere deserves 5 stars. Last but not least, their toilet was shiningly...
Read moreI recently had lunch at Lebenbauer, a calm and elegant restaurant near Vienna’s city center. It’s a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys light, seasonal cuisine with a focus on organic and mostly vegetarian dishes. The space is bright, filled with plants and natural textures, and has a peaceful terrace tucked away from the street.
I started with a warming vegetable curry soup—fragrant and well-balanced. For the main course, I tried grilled halibut with creamy polenta, followed by a colorful wok of vegetables with tempeh. Each dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The portions were just right—satisfying without being heavy.
The atmosphere is serene, the service professional but relaxed, and the menu offers plenty of gluten-free and vegan options alongside a few fish and poultry dishes. I also appreciated the carefully curated wine list, with a few organic choices that paired perfectly with the meal.
Lebenbauer is ideal for a quiet lunch, a business meal, or a thoughtful dinner. If you’re looking for clean, healthy food in a refined setting, this is one of the best places in Vienna. I’ll definitely...
