Mr.Waffle & Sandwich - Brugge — Restaurant in Bruges

I don’t understand all the good reviews on here - this is probably one of the worst waffles I’ve ever had, and that includes those I’ve had outside of Belgium in countries that don’t even specialise in waffles!

We were in Bruges for a few hours and stopped by this place to satisfy our waffle cravings. We ordered four different ones, each of them turned out undercooked to the point where we couldn’t even cut the waffle properly because the inside was too sticky and our teeth got tired of chewing! We raised this with the staff and were told these were some of the freshest waffles in town as they make 600 a day and no-one has ever raised an issue.

We eventually managed to get them to make us a new one with a longer cooking time but it still turned out the same.

Overall a very disappointing...

It might be heretical to say but I didn't like it. It was my first time trying leige style waffles (tried only the brussels style before) and they are just waaaaaay too sweet. Unpleasantly and cloyingly sweet. I didn't enjoy the dense texture either. And I got powdered sugar on my waffle even though I didn't ask for any while composing my own waffle.

The atmosphere here is also not for me. There are constant lines and crowds, few tables and bare walls - all that adds up to a feeling of hury and more a waffle factory than a cafe. Just take your waffle and go away, faster, faster, faster.

Service was fine, through. Competent and with a smile.

I'm living 3 stars instead of 2, as my husband did enjoy his waffle more...

It was our first Belgian waffle experience after a long research on the way to Bruges and it was definitely the place that put waffle expectation bar very high 🙂 The waffles were sweet and rich, freshly prepared. Great choice of extras, chocolate and strawberries were just great. A bit disappointed about coffee (Costa and not my taste) but fresh orange juice was delicious. As for prices I would say they were OK, not overpriced and waffles were definitely worth their price. The staff were friendly and despite busy day they served the waffles quickly.
