I thought this place was fantastic! It was our first time visiting Bruges and we stumbled upon this place while meandering around the market square area. The staff was very kind, offering us English menus right away, and they were attentive throughout the meal.
We wanted to try some Flemish foods so we got the Flemish beef stew and some beers (I tried the Zot, which I guess is a locally brewed beer; it had a lovely balance of sweetness and bitterness). We got the croquettes as an appetizer and they were really good (hot as molten lava on the inside but just be careful haha). They had, I believe, a beer cheese on the inside and came with a dipping sauce. The beef stew had a nice warm, homemade flavor to it and the meat was tender. I loved how it came in a little Le Creuset pot (so cute). The fries were really tasty, as one would expect (French fries are always good), and the portion was huge. The staff was kind enough to bring us some bread and pork rillette and, as it was my first time trying rillette, I was surprised by how good it was! It really did make a perfect accompaniment to the beer.
The only downside was it was a little expensive (but you can't fault this place individually for that, the whole area is similarly priced so that's just the cost of eating in the center like that). It was a treat so it was worth it.
Also, I wish I had taken pics to show how cute the place was on the inside. It was small but cozy, with a fireplace going and a really cute sort of eclectic movie-themed decor. It felt like the sort of place locals would go as a routine and catch up with each other.
I definitely recommend you check it out if you're...
Read morewe ate here last year June 16 and the food was so good, we decided to go back and eat there again on our return trip. After a 300 mile journey we went back to the restaurant and a different person was there. I thought for a moment we had stepped into a Basil Faulty sketch. The man who was there was a complete moron and was very rude even though we told him we had travelled 300 miles for their fantastic Lasagne. As the menu had changed since we last went in there a few weeks previously, there was nothing on the menu we wanted as we had come especially for the Lasagne. He went ballistic and was throwing things round and shouting, snatched all the cutlery and "napkins" of the table and threw them in the sink. Unbeknown to us, apparently it is a restaurant by evening with real napkins and paper ones for the day time, (who would of known?) and the menu outside is the daytime one, not the evening menu. So would recommend the daytime the guy there was really nice, but we would never go again if that other...
Read moreThe food here is consistently excellent. This time, we had the mussels with white wine—really, really good and full of flavor. The portion is generous, so if you’re two people, I’d actually recommend sharing one mussel pot and ordering a few sides.. it’s the perfect way to enjoy the meal.
We also had the Oud Bruges cheese croquettes, and they were truly standout. You can find these croquettes all over Bruges, but most are sadly low-quality freezer versions. These, on the other hand, were clearly artisanal you could genuinely taste the Bruges cheese. Same goes for the shrimp croquettes: delicious and well made.
We finished with the nougat ice cream dessert with raspberry coulis, and it was such a treat. Delicate, flavorful, and really well executed. As a sweet touch, they even brought us some little Easter chocolates.
The service was lovely as always; friendly, smiling, and welcoming. It’s the kind of place you come back to because you know the quality and care are...
