Il Cortile — Restaurant in Ghent

The waitress/owner (her picture was on the menu) was very rude. We knew in advance that we only had 2 hours to eat before the next shift started, which was no problem for us. Unfortunately, the waitress repeated this several times in a stressed way, which kind of ruined the ambiance. We ordered 2 appetizers and we only got 1. This can happen of course, we didn’t mind that much, but we did mind that the waitress in stead of apologising, blamed us that we didn’t order a second appetizer. When we got the bill, we saw that she charged 2 extra cokes. She was annoyed and didn’t believe us that the bill was wrong. In the end she was so annoyed that she even said to my friend ‘don’t come here anymore’. Well, Il cortile, be sure that we (6 people that live in Ghent) will never come here again. Appalling! This place shouldn't serve food anymore! Apart from me getting served the wrong pizza my girlfriend had a pasta which made her very VERY sick. She felt poorly for hours and to throw up a lot. We had a doggybag to take the leftovers. (Didn't know she'd be ill then) and to check if it really was the food and not some flu I had some of the pasta the next day, my stomach is in full protest and I keep burping. Conclusion being the food is literally sickening. Also the staff are either overworked or in the wrong profession, seeing they don't have a sincere smile to give. Lastly I found it somewhat pitiful to charge € 5,- for a 0,5L water. We didn't have desert here (what a surprise) so can't comment on that, I can only...

BE WARNED: THIS IS NOT A CHARITY.

We were asked to leave the premises after they discovered that one of us was not hungry, and wasn't going to eat (although she did order an expensive aperitif of 8 euro). The woman did have the quality of honesty, as she explained that they could fill the table with people who spend more, so we had to go. On the other hand, a sense of running a long term business, customer friendliness, or generally proper manners, are qualities not to be found in this establishment.

By writing this review my peace of mind is back, and their circle of negativity is fed. I'm waiting patiently for them to close, so they make room for better...
