We were looking for somewhere in the old town to have dinner which served more than just ćevapci, and looking at the reviews decided upon Konoba Fakat.
Usually, the name of a restaurant gives you an idea of what to expect but a meal at Konoba Fakat was an unusually pleasurable experience. A konoba is a family run tavern-style restaurant, which specialises in regional meat and fish dishes. Whilst fákat means really or truly.
The restaurant is tucked off to the side of Ul. Bravadžiluk, just around from the City Hall building. It is open between 9am and 11pm seven days a week. We originally turned up with making a reservation and were immediately ushered away saying they were full and there were no tables. When I asked when a table might be free, I was told to come back in an hour. When we came back 15 minutes later her demeanour had completely changed, she welcomed us back and showed us to one of the free tables in the outdoor courtyard.
We initially ordered a Teletina ispod sača (veal cooked under the lid (called peka in Croatian) made with potatoes, onions, carrots, bell peppers, oil, bay leaves, rosemary, and seasonings (12,00km) however I still felt hungry, so I ordered the lamb cutlets (15,00km). The lamb cutlets were divine. All washed down with several bottles of Sarajevsko premium beers.
In the end we had a great conversation with the owner, who apologised for being a little abrupt when we first turned up as she had been run off her feet all day and was just exhausted. She even gave us a free glass of Slivovica, at the end of the meal.
This family-run restaurant serves simple rustic Croatian dishes at prices which are relatively low...
Read moreThis restaurant is worth visiting when in Sarajevo. It definitely stands out with its eclectic decor - feels a bit disco? It truly has a welcoming atmosphere, really feels like a family-run business. We were greeted and served by Leila, a truly cordial host who made us feel at home and took time for a little chat. The pricing is really good, especially given the quality of food. It was not just tasty but also well-presented. We had come delicious cevapi with a side of Sarajevsko beer. Very good pairing. It's not easy to find a place in Sarajevo that will serve both food and alcohol, so this konoba is perfect for tourists who want both. The only thing I didn't like was the bathroom, as it was pretty cold inside (while it was -3 outside). But besides, it doesn't take away from my 5 star rating and I still recommend this lovely...
Read moreA charming back alley restaurant right in the centre of old town Sarajevo. Food is delicious and comes in big portions for affordable prices. Service is not only very friendly but also attentive and rather quick which cannot be taken for granted in this touristy area. Konoba Fakat is the perfect place to fill your belly with some hearty Cevapcici after a day of sight seeing in Sarajevo. And I highly recommend the turkish coffee to finish off your dinner. Will definitly be back when I visit...
