I love the Lemon tart. I wanted to try the breakfast hoping to get the same quality. I was in line waiting to order at the cashier, and this girl behind the counter asked me what I wanted. I said I want to order breakfast and she replied "Oh, you'll have to wait in line and order at the cashier" and I'm like... WTH do you think I'm doing? When ordering, the girl at the cashier didn't understand what I was asking for... sorry, but we're not in Belgium or France, so you better don't be that picky and try to figure out what the people is asking, there are not many options anyway. The Fresh Orange juice is fresh and good, but not worth nearly 4 bucks, and it came straight after I placed and paid for my order. However, the Croque Brioche and the Rostii came after 25 minutes (time on the ticket vs. time I received it). The Brioche looked dirty and I'm not really sure it was a brioche, the Rostii came without the Pistolette Roll, and they just brought plain bread when I asked them (aren't pistolette rols supposed to be stuffed?). Staff try to be good but most of the time they are kind of rude... like when the time I try to order a Creme Brulee and the girl was like "that's not a Creme Brulee, that's a Creme Caramel, duh!" The worst thing I saw thanks god didn't happen to me, but there was this gentleman walking to his table with two coffees in his hands , and the waitress/cashier just cut in front of him to get a piece of bread to another table, blocking his way in the meantime and then when she returned to the counter she was so in rush that the guy with the two coffes had to step back a couple of paces to let her pass. Incredible, I used to be a waiter and the customer ALWAYS have the right of way, is just common sense. Conclusion, nearly $40 for that lousy breakfast and the torture of witnessing all that...
Read moreHad a Seinfeld experience today. There were three people in the line when I walked in. I stood behind number 3, who was staring longingly at the desserts. He waved me past him with a smile. I smiled back and moved to the third spot in line. At that point, the lady behind the counter made eye contact with me and smiled. It looked like a "Can I help you?" smile, but she was putting a box into a bag. So I smiled back, and asked, "Are you helping someone?" and she said, "Yes. There are several people ahead of you." Okay... She helped person 1 and person 2, then went to person 3 and pointedly said "I believe you were next?" (I swear he let me in!) She took his order, and while she finished up with him, a very sweet young lady came up and took my order. The young lady then told the Counter Lady of Gloom what my order was, and went to make my coffee. CLG rang my order up, put the debit machine on the counter, and immediately left to go help someone else. She didn't make eye contact with me or say a word. CLG didn't stick around to see if I had paid and didn't offer me the receipt. I had to separate the merchant and customer copies from the machine myself. Meanwhile, the lovely young lady who took my order made me an amazing coffee with a happy face on top. The one star I gave for this review is all hers. Please note that during this whole experience I was trying really hard to keep smiling and be friendly. I don't think I misinterpreted the body language that badly? "No...
Read moreManuel Latruwe has the best croissants and pastries in the city. They were so delicious that we had to go back a second time to buy some more. Some people may find them a bit pricy but for excellent baking products I think it's worth it. My issue is with the poor customer service experience I had during that visit with one staff.
I went to the store (March 30 around 1pm) for its food, not to be ridiculed. The names of the delicacies are in French and they are nicely displayed in single rows. I don't speak French, the food is in a glass display, and I don't see a problem in pointing to the cashier what I would like to get. However, she said she couldn't see what I was pointing at and insisted that I say the name out loud for her. I felt pressured and embarrassed and tried my best to pronounce the names. She then corrected my pronunciation. I bet she must be having a lot of fun in doing it. I guess I was just being too nice to be bullied by such a cashier.
The first time I went, the other cashier had no problems with me pointing at what I wanted. Ask the taller cashier to serve you unless you want a condescending...
