For years, my partner and I have been loyal patrons of this wonderful restaurant, and it has never failed to impress us. Specializing in authentic Vietnamese cuisine, this establishment consistently delivers outstanding flavours, high-quality ingredients, and exceptional service. While I can't speak to the Chinese food, as I've never ordered it, I can confidently say that the Vietnamese dishes here are second to none.

One of the standout aspects of this restaurant is its consistently delicious pho. I've visited numerous pho spots in the city, but this one remains my absolute favourite. The broth is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, offering the deep, comforting taste that every great bowl of pho should have. The noodles are always cooked to perfection, and the meat—whether it's rare beef, brisket, or chicken—is incredibly tender and flavorful. Each bowl is served with fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime, and jalapeños, allowing guests to customize their meal to their liking.

Beyond the pho, the menu boasts a variety of other Vietnamese specialties, all prepared with the same level of care and attention to detail. Whether it's a fragrant bowl of vermicelli noodles topped with grilled meats and crisp vegetables or a perfectly wrapped shrimp and pork fresh roll served with peanut dipping sauce, each dish is made with fresh ingredients and authentic flavours. The restaurant also offers a great selection of beverages, including classic Vietnamese iced coffee, which is a must-try for caffeine lovers.

Another major highlight of this restaurant is its excellent service. The staff is always warm, welcoming, and attentive, ensuring that every visit is an enjoyable experience. One server in particular, Rose, stands out for her friendly and courteous demeanor. She always greets guests with a smile and goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and well taken care of. It’s this kind of personal touch that makes dining here feel like visiting a favorite family-owned spot rather than just another restaurant.

The restaurant itself is spacious and well-maintained, making it an ideal spot for both intimate meals and larger gatherings. Whether you're dining alone, with a partner, or with a large group of friends or family, there’s always plenty of room to accommodate everyone comfortably. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the decor is simple yet inviting, allowing the focus to remain on the incredible food and great company.

Another factor that keeps us coming back is the speed of service. No matter how busy the restaurant gets, the food always arrives promptly without sacrificing quality. It’s rare to find a place that maintains such a high standard of both efficiency and flavor, but this restaurant manages to do so effortlessly.

Overall, if you're a fan of Vietnamese cuisine or looking to try it for the first time, this restaurant is a fantastic choice. The pho is unbeatable, the service is outstanding, and the welcoming atmosphere makes every visit a pleasant one. We will undoubtedly continue to return for many years to come, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and...

RUINED BY GREED.

Unfortunately this once beautifully, meticulously maintained culinary treat has been ruined by greedy tip gouging owners.

My wife and I have frequented Phobulous for years, however in the last few visits, we experienced changes to our usual dining experience that were dismissed by the nostalgia of returning to one of our favorite spots.

This evening was a complete departure from the comfort we've come to know. The cook spent our meal berating the only waitress working, the owner consistently pestered the young woman, asking if her patrons paid in exact cash, she was expected to coordinate both Skip the Dishes/Uber Eats pick-ups while serving, and almost ever last one of our food orders came out questionable.

How that young woman stood there and managed to endure so much abuse in the half an hour that we were present for is a testament not only to her character but her motivations and training.

Oh wait! I know how! Rose! I think we all know, those of us who have visited this spot for years, that Rose is the star player. I'm sure being trained by Rose prepared her for such a chaotic atmosphere.

My green onion cake was wet, not oily. Wet. My Grilled Chicken Salad Rolls were torn and had appeared to have had been violently rolled by someone who could care less about presentation; too busy yelling at a waitress. My wife couldn't finish her over salted Pho. And the Sweet and Sour Pork gave us food poisoning.

One of our favorite food spots, ruined. And worst of all?? I'm...

Very impressed!

I recently ordered delivery from Phobulous and really enjoyed the food.

I love Vietnamese food and wanted to try a new place. I think I may have found a new favourite!

I ordered the grilled beef vermicelli bowl and had an idea of what to expect from other Vietnamese restaurants. What I received far surpassed my expectations. The price was a bit higher than what I'm used to, but once I opened the container, I understood why. I'm used to vermicelli bowls having a few small pieces of spring roll and a few small pieces of meat. It was a pleasant surprise to see full sized spring rolls and two skewers of beef. The spring rolls were crispy with a good amount of filling, but the grilled beef was really the highlight of the meal. The two skewers had a very generous amount of beef on them, and the marinade used for the meat was absolutely delicious. Even the fish sauce included was far more flavorful than I've had before.

I also ordered a dessert - I had ordered the coconut pudding, but received mango. Not mad about it at all! It was cold, creamy and had a bright mango flavour.

Definitely...

First time eating here. Rose and her staff were fantastic and checked on me 2x to make sure everything was good and a final time to see if I needed anything else. Ordered the beef vermicelli bowl, which came with 2 huge skewers of BBQ beef, and 2 full size spring rolls. All the regular ingredients of these bowls were there and EVERYTHING was FRESH! Came with 2 small sauce servings, nuoc num (fish sauce) and homemade chili suace. They also brought 2 squeeze bottles (hoisin sauce and hot sauce), which I appreciated because I LOVE hoisin sauce. Everything was CLEAN - so many of these small places the same can't be said. Also got the Vietnamese Coffee, which if you haven't tried and like coffee it is a must. They provided a glass of ice to make an iced coffee but I prefer it hot. It was GREAT. Will definitely be back next time I am in the UofA area. Note: I saw one guy (Bruce Mattia) did a recent review and INCORRECTLY speculated they share a kitchen with an attached restaurant - when in doubt ASK, I asked the owner Rose and she explained it is overflow seating not a separate restaurant.

I visited this place when it first opened many years ago, and perhaps it felt niche or craft back then—or maybe there’s simply more competition now. There appears to be a joint menu and establishment adjacent, likely a shared kitchen. Either way, there are definitely other establishments serving better Pho. To be fair, the service was very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was fresh and inviting. However, the soup itself was disappointing. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, a traditional spicy soup, but it lacked spice—and while I could overlook that, the real issue was the bland broth. The noodles were overly soft, almost as if they’d been overcooked in advance. Additionally, the meats were sparse, and one piece was cold. While I understand this is a typical practice, the broth should have been hot enough to warm the meat properly, but it wasn’t. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of what the original establishment used to deliver. I did leave full.

I was food poisioned here Thursday night. I only had desserts "deep fried ice cream" & "deep fried banana." It was likely the rolls in the deep fried ice cream. After 24 hours of cramps, puking, bloody stool when I called they did not believe me or offer any investigation to ensure it would not happen to others let alone my losses or fact I had to endure the worst 48 hours of my life with cramps. I was with 4 other people the whole day we all had the same lunch they & I know I was perfectly fine & happy until about an hour after I ate these desserts. This review could have easily been avoided BY USING AN OUNCE OF ACCOUNTABILITY in offering that the incident would have been investigated rather than attempting to claim I am wrong that it was not from their desserts, it was.
