Went here quite often years ago as a student. Back then it was quite enjoyable, and of decent quality. This does not seem to be the case any more.
Recently I decided to get an order delivered, and the result was quite disappointing.
We ordered the "Party For Family" Platter, which arrived with multiple issues:
The "Scallop" Sushi piece listed was replaced with Shredded Imitation Crab Meat. We were not contacted regarding this substitution. This is a substitution of MUCH lower value and quality.
The Salmon Maki used cooked salmon, and barely any of it at that. I'm used to seeing edges and trimmings used in Salmon Maki, but this is the first time I've seen cooked salmon used. The amount of salmon in the roll was also noticeably less when compared side-by-side with the Tuna Maki, there was about half the amount of fish, with the difference being made up by rice.
The "Inari" sushi was a joke. It's half the size of all the other sushi pieces. They literally cut what should be a normal piece in half in order to call it two pieces. Of all things to try to cheap out on, half a piece of fried bean curd? Not to mention, this piece is literally sitting beside other sushi pieces that are twice the size, so you can VERY clearly see the discrepancy.
The "Alberta Roll" used beef that I believe would have been for sukiyaki. This is normal and expected, however, the beef pieces themselves were overcooked and dry to the point of crumbling. I almost want to say that whatever didn't make it into the dish for an actual sukiyaki order gets set aside for this roll.
In general, the rice was wet, almost to point of the rice grains shifting into a paste.
I've included some photos we took of the meal. Things to note: The wet rice in general The cooked salmon in the Salmon Maki The amount of fish compared between the Salmon and Tuna Maki The Inari sushi that is half the size of the Tamago sushi The inclusion of "Scallop" in the...
Read moreI don't like giving this restaurant a complete failing grade. We've been coming here for years and the food and service were always good. There was a red wine that we always ordered with our meal. It is called Franzia and is a little sweeter than the usual red wines. About 6 or 8 months ago we were told that the brand of wine has changed. We didn't like the flavor of the new wine and the owner went out to get the Franzia for us. The last time we were here was about a month ago. We ordered red wine as usual. When the 1/2 litre came, the wine did not taste like the Franzia - it was the other "popular" wine that other customers like. The manager came and took the wine away without offering an explanation or an apology. We never went back.
I suppose we could go for the food and have the Franzia wine at home. There's more to a meal than red wine. There's a principle involved here. We felt cheated and tricked. They knew that we like the Franzia wine. If they didn't have the Franzia wine on the day we were there, they could have easily told us that they don't have. Instead, they brought us the other "popular" wine that other customers like without saying a word. We're paying for the wine. Why should we pay for something we don't like? Why should we go to a place that doesn't serve the wine we like? I don't care what's "popular" with other customers. I care about me. There are lots of restaurants to choose from. I'll go to those restaurants that will bend over backwards to accommodate me and my tastes rather than those things that are popular with some stranger that I've never met and doesn't know the first...
Read moreIf I could give less than 1 star I would. My friend and I often go to Kyoto after work and we went tonight thinking we would have an enjoyable time. I ordered the grilled cod. When we went to the restaurant before it was a decent sized portion that would fill you. The one I got today was at most 2 oz, which the waitress said it was the normal 5 oz size. For $16.50 a plate, it was maybe 2 bites worth of fish. When we inquired the waitress about it, the owner told the waitress in Chinese and I quote "Bring it back then and tell them never to come back to the restaurant." Understanding fluent Chinese, I asked the waitress about it and the owner heard again and he tried to use more advanced Chinese thinking again I wouldn't understand and called us "arrogant"! Then as we walked out, he tried to stare me down. I have never had such a bad experience before at a restaurant. The portion sizes that came with the rest of the food was VERY small in general. The sushi rolls were mainly stuffed with tempura bits and has no substance. The quality of the food has gone down. And now they have very poor customer service. I do not recommend this...
