I went to Empire the other day for a little lunch. It is a bright airy space with fun artwork throughout the space. The staff was friendly and kind offered personal recommendations when asked what they would suggest. The menu has a good selection of savoury and sweet crepes offered in both a gluten free and gluten full varieties haha. They also had a basic selection of beverages including water (sparkling & flat) as well as karma sparkling beverages and drip coffees. The crepes pictured are La Traditionnel (made with ham), Piggy in the garden (made on a gluten free crepe with chicken) and Le Sucre (made on a gluten free crepe with butter and sugar) all were very nice! I really enjoyed the le sucre crepe it was a nice balance of butter and sugar it reminded me of Norwegian lefse and as someone who doesn't generally chose gluten free foods it tasted as good as a regular gluten crepe in my opinion! I would definitely go back again. Also of note is how kind and generous this business was during the McDougall Creek, Clifton and McKinley fires by offering a place to sit down, charge phones, use the restroom and have some food for those who were forced to leave there homes with little or no notice. It's nice to see local businesses rally around the community and show their support in whatever way they can. Thank...
Read moreWent here a year ago and the crepes were delicious but was shocked and very disappointed by the paper plates, and plastic utensils in what feels like a very upscale and classy place!! Had a chat with them and thanked me for the feedback. A group of us went yesterday morning, a year later, hoping this had changed, so I went it to ask, and the lady there told me that she can't afford a $10,000 dishwasher!! And that apparently one customer brings her own plate and cutlery, so perhaps we can do the same, finishing her sentence with "Knock your self out!" That didn't land very well! I was shocked how dismissive she was about this... we all went next door to Marmalade Caffe where everything was served on plates and with real cutlery. Would love to support his lovely Crepe business once they take this seriously and make some changes. Thanks.
Sent 3 emails to the owners, attempting to engage in meaningful dialogue on how wasteful their practice of the disposable plates and cutlery are, including my backstory why this is important to me and even offered to help and all emails have been ignored!! Won't ever be...
Read moreI went there twice now and was disappointed both times. The first time, I wasn't impressed with the food and left still hungry, but seeing as my wife loves crepes I wanted to take her there for a second try. I forgot that all the tables are shoved to one side so close that we felt like we were eavesdropping on every other tables' conversations, while half the floorspace is empty. We ordered two crepes and it was a half hour before we got them, while people who ordered after us were getting their food before us. The crepes were served on paper plates with plastic utensils like we were at a picnic. Presentation was very bland. Mine was just a flat brown square, and my wife's was burnt all over so that whenever she tried to cut it, the crepe just ended up cracking or crumbling like a cracker. We could tell they had strategically doused all the burnt sections (AKA most of the crepe) with powdered sugar to try and hide it. Mine was supposed to have egg in it but I could barely see any when I opened it up. Again, we both...
