Frustrating Dining Experience; Service and Management Issues
We recently visited La Forge and had an extremely disappointing experience. We arrived and patiently waited in line. Given the cold weather, we opted to wait for an outdoor table for 4 under the heater, as the indoor seating would take longer. The hostess informed us it would be a 15-minute wait. However, after patiently waiting, the table meant for us was given to a group of 4 that came after us. When I brought this up to the hostess, she briefly apologized, claiming "she did not know" even though they had taken our name for the waitlist. I told her we specifically said to be by the heater as we had our child with us!
We were eventually seated at a cramped table adjacent to the heater, far from ideal. The space was so tight that even the waitress asked if we were with the group seated next to us.
The service that followed was equally disappointing. It took 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive and 1 hour for the main meals. We ordered nachos, which was decent. The two smash burgers with poutine were underwhelming. The poutine was dry, lacking in flavor and sauce, making it a disappointing side to the burgers. We also ordered steak and frites - steak was decent but nothing remarkable.
To make matters worse, three of the four meals were served. We were then informed that the kitchen had run out of the mac and cheese (kid's meal) for our toddler. It's hard to understand how the kitchen wouldn't know they ran out of a kids' meal until the moment of serving. Expecting us to suddenly order something else for a hungry child after a one-hour wait was unacceptable. We didn't want another kid's meal as we didn't want to wait again; it makes no sense to feed three adults while making a child wait for their meal.
We opted to share our meals with our toddler, which we requested an extra plate for - a request that was never fulfilled. We also had to repeatedly ask for missing items like forks and water, which delayed our meal even further. My husband even had to go inside and ask for these basic essentials.
The final blow was that, after deciding to pay quickly because it was so cold, we realized we had been charged for the mac and cheese- a meal they never served! We had to return back up to ask for a refund!
I understand that running a restaurant is tough, especially with rising cost, but at the very least, basic service standards should be maintained. If the restaurant is short-staffed, it would be wiser to limit the number of tables rather than compromising the dining experience. Additionally, the system of taking names and making guest wait become pointless if you're not going to honor it.
In the end, despite the terribly poor experience, we still left a 10% tip. Unfortunately, that was probably more than the...

If I could give La Forge Bistro and Steakhouse zero stars, I would. My family and I made the unfortunate decision to dine here for New Year’s Eve in Mont Tremblant, and it was an absolute train wreck from start to finish.
We were required to prepay $250 per adult and $125 per child for the privilege of attending their 5:30 PM seating, which, insultingly, came with a hard cutoff at 8 PM so they could usher in their “actual” New Year’s Eve diners for the same price (but without a kids’ menu). That alone should have been a red flag, but we had high hopes for a steakhouse dinner. How naive we were.
The Food: A Parade of Culinary Catastrophes
The appetizers set the tone for the evening: • Bone-dry falafel that would rival a desert for lack of moisture. • Foie gras crème brûlée—an absolute joke, both in concept and execution. • Blini with sturgeon and caviar, featuring a dry piece of sturgeon topped with what must’ve been four lonely caviar eggs—an insult to even the tiniest appetite. • Oysters so smothered in a bland, unremarkable sauce that tasting the actual oyster was impossible.
The sole saving grace? Tiny A5 wagyu lollipops—delicious but laughably minuscule.
The first course was even worse. The lobster bisque was akin to flour-thickened turkey gravy gone horribly wrong, leaving a greasy, glue-like paste that was entirely inedible. My foie gras was no better—an unappetizing glob of slimy, undercooked liver slopped onto an overly sweet cornbread-like base.
For the main course, the steak was, thankfully, edible—but that’s hardly a compliment at a steakhouse. My son decided to try the A5 wagyu instead of the kids’ menu (a $100 supplement on top of the $250 adult meal). For $350, he endured inedible appetizers, paste-like bisque, and a tiny piece of wagyu.
Dessert was the final slap in the face: a chocolate mousse “log” whose unfortunate resemblance to a certain bodily function felt like a fitting end to the meal.
The Experience: Bare-Bones and Bleak
For $250 per adult, one might expect at least a modicum of festivity. Instead, the restaurant offered nothing but a handful of half-inflated balloons dangling limply from the ceiling. Drinks—sodas for the kids and my non-alcoholic beer—were extra, adding insult to injury.
Final Thoughts: Avoid at All Costs
Prepaying for this meal left us completely at their mercy, with no recourse for the abysmal quality of the food or experience. It’s enraging to have such high expectations only to be completely burned by a restaurant that clearly has no incentive to impress once they’ve pocketed your money.
Do yourself a favor: avoid La Forge Bistro and Steakhouse at all costs. The only thing they excelled at was turning a festive evening into a frustrating, overpriced...
Read moreBeen coming to Tremblant for 7-8 years now and the past few years my wife and I have tried to make La Forge's upstairs Steakhouse one of our stops. The Bison Tomahawk is one of our favorites since it's not something we can get many places. The whiskey and cognac variety is also really nice and usually we try a few whiskeys and cocktails. We always sit at the bar and usually there's some spots free if you time it right. We try for early. On Saturday this week, after snowboarding all day we stopped in before the dinner rush and it was pretty empty. Grabbed a seat at the bar and a woman came over and greeted us but apologized because she said the bar was all reserved. No one was there at all so we were puzzled. Also, it's weird to have reservations for bar seating. She said she would talk to the manager though and see if it would be okay. Cool. A few minutes later some guy comes over and starts yelling at us in French. Like literally yelling at us. We were obviously confused so he starts yelling at us in English instead, saying how we can't sit without a reservation. I said "Oh that's a shame you have all these empty seats here and it's early." and we started putting on our coats. This angry man says "Oh that's a shame for all the customers who made a reservation a week ago!" which... doesn't make any sense. If I said something that absurd to a customer I don't think I'd be able to sleep at night. Anyhow I'll chalk it up to someone having a bad day and maybe we'll try to come back next time we are in the area. Usually this place has a nice balance of price for quality even if the service is somewhat slow on things like water/drink refills sometimes when they are busy. We'll definitely never be back though if they keep doing things like requiring reservations for bar seating or verbally abusing people. I'll update my...
