We went as a family with 2 thin kids, 10 and 12. I ordered the cheese fondue for the kids and the oil fondue for the adults. The experience was enjoyable up to end. If you want to know about the food, it's good, stop here.
We were charged 4 adult portions (a whopping $272 including 2 juices and a beer, a 20% tip). When I discreetly inquired about the kids pricing, which should have been half price, the waiter suddenly became very defensive and embarrassingly loud. He said that I didn't mention that I wanted kids' portions and that my kids' could have been over 13 years old, that I would not have been able to order the configuration and so he (arbitrarily) brought out 4 adult portions.
Anyways, I felt this was the wrong tone that was used for alot of "It's not my fault, it's your fault" that could have easily been said BOTH ways. I had absolutely no idea that I was ordering for 4 adults based on what I was ordering. I felt that he should have offered an explanation to kids' portions so that I could have made an INFORMED DECISION.
In the end, the food was good, I received 4 adult portions, and the kids had fun. Not going to let $50 ruin their experience, nor the waiter's tip, however I was left emotionally scarred with a lot of HTFWIK. This was either coming up in the tip or the review, and I (arbitrarily) chose the latter.
I will not go back again, as the night before, we had an amazing exotic stone grill at the restaurant C'est la Vie in St. Jovite that left me wanting to try more menu items.
So as a warning to families, if you want kids' portions, mention this prior to ordering. This is your job at this restaurant. This is a very touristy restaurant and really fun for the kids but I can only imagine how many other uninformed families would have...
Read moreFantastic traditional fondue in a warm, super cozy restaurant! We had five of us for Christmas dinner and wanted it all so we got two orders of cheese fondue, three orders of beef fondue, the raclette appetizer, and, for desert, the chocolate fondue with fruit. Accompanied by a nice green salad (just lettuce and a great dressing...no need to complicate things, since there is so much more coming), dry meats and cornichons, and an extra order of fried potatoes and rice (which we didn't really need, but hey, go big or go home!). What a feast! I've had the real thing many times in Switzerland and France and this was equally good. High quality Emmentaler and Gruyere cheese, with wine/kirsch to taste. Super lean and plentiful beef. All washed down with a couple of bottles of really nice white wine (La Derniere Goute). Oh, and a nice warm Irish Coffee to end the evening! With their seatings, everyone comes in at once and we had to wait a bit for the waitress (who happened to be the owner!), but once we ordered, the food started coming promptly. Not cheap, (what is these days?) but well worth it. Be sure to reserve well ahead of time as it is...
Read moreAfter a 7-hour drive from Toronto with our friends who were our guests from the US, we took them this restaurant. We had been here a few years ago and had liked their food. Upon arrival, we were told that the the restaurant is fully booked and we should come back in 1.5 hours for a table. We waited in the bar next door as it was -28 outside. After returning exactly in 1.5 hours, the hostess who was a very rude old lady, told us that it was too soon and we have to wait. After waiting for a few minutes, she got into fight with a young couple, who were already sited at a table. The hostess was arguing that they didn’t have a reservation a presumably had lied to her at the time of arrival. The argument got heated and the hostess told them that “YOU SHOULD SEE A THERAPIST.” We were standing close by. The hostess then turned to us and said she couldn’t accommodate us because we didn’t have reservations. From the reaction of the rest of the staff, it was obvious that customer service is not their concern. In nutshell, horrible horrible customer service and possibly good food. We didn’t get to...
