This past Saturday my friend and I decided to try Cocos cafe. I entered to order from the curly haired brunette with highlights, a wrap that had avocado in it and was kindly informed their avocado was too green to use, if they could substitute for tomato. I said it was fine I like avocado too much to pass so please use avocado. Then I was lied to and told they had no avocado. I questioned this. Then was told again they were too green. I repeated for the 4th time it was ok. We get the order settled. I go to pay, my debit does not have tap. I express this as they have the little Square payment set up on their table. The cashier then lets me know I can either A) give her my pin, or B) use something with tap, like a credit card. I only had my debit on me. I let the cashier know this and she basically said she couldn’t help me. I let her know I’ve used Square payment before and have entered my pin on the screen. I asked if she could just turn the screen she had around to tap my pin in. She refused as “it goes against COVID policy”. I find it EXTREMELY unprofessional that this was said to me at this time. I was not going to give her my pin and it was the only form of payment I had. If this was in fact the company policy then I suggest other measures are implemented for COVID as this situation could have easily been rectified with a sanitized wipe and some professionalism. I come to Jasper very often and wanted to try something new and let’s just say I was less than impressed with this treatment and service. For that my 1 star without even...
Read moreBeen here once before, interesting and appetizing selection of unusual breakfast items. My tummy was irritable and I wanted soup. She asked me if I wanted small or large and I said large. The roasted squash soup was delicious but I was not impressed- for a bowl that barely held one cup, that had cost me just under $6, especially when I had requested 'Large'. I thought about saying something but decided to let it go.
When I was finished with the soup I tried my coffee- it was weak and terrible. I went back and explained it was not very good, would it be possible to get the other blend. She immediately asked me what I meant by that and I can't drink it, it's terrible. She said 'well I'll have to charge you for another one'. I asked to speak to the supervisor. She then said she'll get me another coffee and upon handing it to me said "we pride ourselves on how carefully we brew our coffee". Whoa!!!! I was angry, and said I'll speak to a supervisor anyway, I meant to complain about the soup as well but not to this inexperienced girl.
I was told they were on vacation so I had to tell the poor girl what to do next time someone complains about their coffee and to remind her I had pre-tipped when I paid and expected better customer service. I am so against pre-tipping now!
This is extremely disappointing as even though Tim Horton's was across the street, I do my best to support local independents... worst customer...
Read moreWe popped into Coco's Cafe (July 2018) while we were camping in the area and weren't overly blown away by our experience. My husband and I are somewhat limited in our foodie options being that we have to find celiac friendly locations so when this place came up on Google we thought it would be a good fit. The atmosphere is very hippie chic with local art contributions on the walls and a very eclectic vibe which can be great, done the right way. Everything inside is very aged and worn, including the kitchen. Age isn't necessarily a negative, but overly worn and unclean is. The utensils in the communal bins were spotted and some were dirty, so I'm not sure if the dishwasher wasn't working correctly that day (or maybe there actually isn't an automated dishwasher at all). The kitchen was messy and appeared to be unclean from the areas we could see. The food was okay, not great. Taste and appearance were like something you would find in a low budget cafeteria. Portions were small, and ingredients looked cheap. Imagine a college student making a full breakfast while trying to stick to a minimal dorm budget, that's the meal we had. The upside was that we didn't get sick which was the one win. Normally we enjoy cozy little unique places like this, but this visit was underwhelming. It wasn't terrible, but in a tourist location like this there are many other options that might be more satisfying for...
