It’s probably one of the worst places I’ve ever been if not the very worst. We asked for a table for 3, fine, they barely cleaned it and told us to seat there. We grabbed menus cause nobody handed those to us. Told us it was gonna be around 30 to 40mins wait for the food, we were tired and didn’t feel like keep looking for a spot so we agreed. We picked our meal and thought somebody would take the order for us since we saw the waitresses and servers going to other tables to do the same. When we asked them if they could take our order cause we were ready and waiting for a long time (30 to 35mins since we seated), they had the audacity to tell us that they don’t take orders that we had to go to the counter/register for somebody there available to do it, considering we saw them going to the other tables we were kind of annoyed and upset that they couldn’t give us the service they were giving to people that happened to be their same culture and nationality, and clearly we were not. We then went to the register and placed the order. Around an hour passed and they brought the food and drink for only 2 of us, they completely missed, disregarded and ignored the fact that we placed different dishes in our order, for 3 people, when we asked them about it, after 3 times, all they said is that it was coming soon. Never happened. Then when we asked again, they finally came clean and said that they didn’t place the order complete and they never made the dish. The food was average for such a long wait. Place ain’t clean like that. They only serve properly their Indian people and yet didn’t even feel bad or embarrassed for making us have a terrible experience, for playing with our time, our money and hunger. Absolutely do not recommend this place at all! Save yourselves the headache, it’s definitely not worthy. Terrible service for such an average food....
Read moreI don’t understand how this restaurant has a 4.2 star rating. Food was absolutely terrible. Service was subpar.
Jhol Momo - it’s basically steamed momo in soup. “Jhol” doesn’t mean any liquid. It’s supposed to be a special type of sauce. Not the soup of the day. Horrible, no flavour.
Steamed chicken momo - chicken was dry, with no flavour. And don’t get me started on the sauce. The red sauce was the same sauce in the little container on the table. Had zero flavour. The white sauce was abysmal.
Gobi Manchurian - it’s basically gobi (cauliflower) pakora coated in “Manchurian” sauce. I.e, the same red sauce as the momo. Again, no flavour. And the rice it came with? Stinky, like it’d been left in an old container for days.
Piña Colada mocktail - if you don’t know how make (quite common) cock/mocktails, don’t put them on the menu. It was basically just pineapple juice and coconut milk, with ice it in. Not blended, just a mix of liquids with ice thrown in.
The only good thing was the dessert - a cottage cheese, gulab jamun filling around phyllo dough. But at that point, anything would have tasted good.
Service, as mentioned was subpar. Servers were not friendly, never checked in with us and would bring food, but not take any of the dishes away. We legit had to clear the table and pile dishes to make room. While they watched. There was hardly any room left, literally, for dessert.
In conclusion: you’re paying for its proximity to the Falls. Nothing more. There are far, far better Hakka restaurants in and around Clifton Hill. This is not worth the $100+ I spent. I didn’t even bother taking my leftovers home.
PSA to Nepali folks: this is NOT Nepali momo, despite having Jhol Momo...
Read moreFirstly don’t say momos to our authentic Nepali dish mo: mo. I wouldn’t recommend Hakkalicious to anyone based on my recent experience. We waited for 45 minutes just to receive hot garlic wings, which should have taken 7 to 8 minutes to cook. The wait time for steamed mo: mo was excessive too, despite them claiming it would take 25 to 30 minutes; it typically only takes 10 to 12 minutes if its not frozen. It was evident they were prioritizing Uber orders over serving customers in-house.
The quality of the food didn’t match the quantity, and excessive food coloring was used. The hot garlic wings lacked any garlic flavor or aroma and were overly oily. The chicken chili momo lacked taste and were unnaturally colored. Even worse, the chicken inside the mo: mo was tough and felt like chewing on something hard.
I strongly suggest Hakkalicious consider changing their chef, as the current one seems to lack an understanding of authentic mo:mo not momos flavors and proper seasoning and please change the mo: mo pickle as well it should be a bit thick.
After enduring a wait of over an hour for just four items, when it came time to pay the bill, the server, a girl with long hair, placed the bill on the counter and didn’t utter a single word, not even a simple “Thank you.”
Overall, my experience at Hakkalicious was extremely disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a better dining...
