I recently discovered that i am unable to eat food with bakers yeast in it so it makes burgers a tricky one for me. I've had the lettuce wrap at 5 guys and it was good so I figured I would give this place a try because for $25 a burger they must be even better.... what a mistake that was! It's a single leaf of lettuce on top and bottom. Absolutely no way to pick it up. No big deal I thought, just knife and fork it but, they serve it in a steel basket with wax paper on bottom so not as easy as one would expect and then the other thing I've leqrned since ditching the bun is that you can really tell who makes greasy burgers now that it doesn't soak into the bun and this was Greasy!! I had a sloppy pile of grease and toppings and bits of wax paper and a couple single leafs of soggy lettuce. Oh, and the fries sucked too. Tiny little hard crispy over cooked crumbs of potato ends. So, at the end of the day I understand that my own food intolerance is the biggest issue here and i accept that but for a specialty burger place in downtown, Harper's you really need to learn to accommodate. If 5 Guys can do it you have no excuse when you charge over 20 bucks for a 6oz greasy burger. Given the choice downtown for a burger, I would do A & W over Harper's any day...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Harpers Saturday night with the kids. The hubby ate here before and said they make solid burgers.
We were seated promptly. Service was pretty attentive and our waitress was phenomenal and really upbeat and sweet. They were on it with the refills too.
I really thought the kids would love their food, but they just picked at it during the dinner. What kid says no to waffle fries and a hot dog? Apparently the hot dog looked to juicy? lol. My french fry loving son, had no issues with his fries but skipped the chicken nuggets. My poor husband had to polish off whatever was not eaten by our kids after he ate his burger and poutine. I had the plantbased burger and I had no complaints. I will say their pickles are really great on the burger and loved their house sauce that came on it as well. Their fries are on the meatier side and I only ate a couple and passed the rest on to the kids, since the burger was pretty filling on its own.
They had toy story playing on the tv in the restaurant. Super cute. It was pretty pricey coming to around $100 after everything was paid out.
I'd probably come back for some apps and small bites in the future when...
Read moreMy original rating was going to be a lowly 1-star, as on the day of our visit, we had hoped to grab an early meal before our boat tour, but that was not to be. We waited, and waited, and waited, only to flag down our server who assured my mother of 81 years, 'Don't worry HUN, you'll make your boat ride.' This was highly insulting, condescending and definitely NOT the way a 20 something should talk to an elder. We almost got up and left at that point. Managers, please talk to your staff about RESPECT! A few minutes later, said server, came back with her tail between her legs, saying the order had not been placed and we would have an additional 20 minute wait; it had already been almost 30 min. We were assured we would still make the boat ride in plenty of time and the manager offered to give us the whole meal on the house. The food was delicious, ( we had the veggie burgers), and we left a generous tip, despite the inconvenience and the uncalled for 'attitude' of the server. Loved the food, and much appreciated that the manager did the right thing. Servers, please work on your customer service and treat elders with the dignity they deserve, one day...
