Review from March 2023: Every once in awhile, you get a bad experience. And sadly, this is one of them.
My boyfriend and I went to @corarestaurants Regina East location this past weekend for brunch. We both had ok experiences prior to this visit so we figured why not.
It’s a busy breakfast joint, but they had a good amount of staff in the kitchen and on the floor. We came at a busy time but by the time we left it was less than half full. We ordered a Maple Latte, glass of Orange Juice, Strawberry Avalanche French Toast (2 pieces), large fruit bowl + toast, and the Jessica.
Hashbrowns were seasoned and cooked well. That’s where the praise ends. My plate of food (the Jessica) was all cold. Specifically, The eggs, the bacon AND the hashbrowns. (I know crepes aren’t supposed to be hot). I could tell my plate had been left to sit while my bf’s food was being prepared as his was warm. As an ex-waitress, I ate my food anyways because I knew although cold, the food wouldn’t have gotten much better even if it was refired AND I was hungry.
To add, my maple latte was very clearly instant latte and it still costed $4.95??? And I thought Starbucks was crazy.
My boyfriend’s food was mid. Which is shitty because if you’re paying $17.75 for 2 pieces of French toast… you better believe it SHOULD taste phenomenal.
As soon as we were given our food and toast condiments (jam & pb), we were never checked on. Only time the server came to ask us if we wanted our bill was well after our stacked plates were cleared by a host.
And then came the bill, that bloody expensive bill. A ridiculous $65.32. My bf left a 15% tip as that was the lowest default option. (He knows now to put a custom 10% next time) This made the bill $75ish.
Sorry not sorry Cora, but if your prices are ridiculous, your food is mid or cold and service is bad, we can’t bring ourselves to...
Read moreVery disappointed with our recent experience at this Cora East location , all due to the unacceptable behaviour of the server “SYLA”. Right from the start, Syla was extremely rude and clearly disinterested in serving us. When she approached our table, her first words were a very curt, “Are you ready or not?” No greeting, no courtesy.
My husband tried to place an order for a burrito crepe with a customization we’ve requested in the past , but Syla interrupted him mid-sentence and bluntly said they don’t allow that customization without even letting him finish. Even though we’ve had it customized before without any issue, we let it go to avoid further unpleasantness and said it was fine to bring it as is.
While my husband was still looking at the menu, Syla tried to snatch it from his hands without even asking if he was done. At that point, we were extremely uncomfortable and asked to speak with a manager. There was no manager on-site, but a senior staff member came over to ask what happened. As I calmly explained the situation and pointed to Syla, who was walking past, she looked at me, made a face, and acted completely indifferent as if she didn’t care at all.
After that, we were thankfully taken over by another server at our request. However, when the new server came to take our order, we told her we had already placed it. She checked the system and couldn’t find anything, so she went and asked Syla, who then lied and said we hadn’t ordered which is simply not true. That was extremely frustrating and unacceptable.
We’ve been to Cora many times and usually have great service, but this experience was shocking. Syla’s behavior was unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely out of line for any customer-facing role. I truly hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures no one else has to go through this kind...
Read moreFood Quality: 4 stars I have ordered the "Fannie" which includes potato wedges, eggs, bacon and strawberry slices on a piece of toast. I love the well done potato wedges and the crispy bacon, HOWEVER the strawberry slices are not all fresh. Some of them seemed to have been frozen or bruised, and mushy. Service Quality: 2 stars We had to wait for half an hour till someone actually came and took our order. I have watched my other two friend's coffee being refilled multiple times, but no one asked to refill hot water for my tea. Isn't the hot water cheaper? My water even had a mysterious floaty in it, so I did not drink it. Also, it was at least another HOUR till our food actually showed up. We arrived at the place at 10:15am, and we left at 12:15pm. It only took us 15 to 20 mins to eat our food, so you can imagine the wait. Overall Experience: 3 stars - Mediocre It could use some updating, and more thorough cleaning for sure. A waitress broke some glass near us and startled us, and did not even say sorry to the guests around. I understand it is busy and your place is under staffed, but saying "Sorry" does not take extra time at all. Also, staff needs to be trained about health and safety. It was clingy for us to watch her pick up broken glasses bare handed.
Conclusion: I know another restaurant that makes customers wait a long time. But they serve very good food which I would give 5 stars for. I don't really know why this...
