Looking for an uncomplicated dinner, we ended up in this location of Flock. The service itself felt similar to that of some made-to-order sandwich places: make your order, pay and see them prepare your order. Or, just sit and wait for them to call. We were there for dinner but, even with five employees behind the counter doing different tasks (administration, cleaning, cashier, etc.), it felt the process wasn't optimized to deliver orders quickly. In fact, my girl friend and I were wondering several times how come some people seem to get their orders ahead of ours. Do they implement a LIFO process?
There were some dubious steps in the process as well. Chicken aside, the menu is composed of a sandwich (pulled chicken sandwich) and a variety of made-to-order salads. Now, the menu says in big what is in the salad and, as far as I can tell, this is not a Subway type operation, where you can customize it. If it is, then there is a big breakdown in terms of hygiene: while waiting for our orders, we observed at least two customers who were pointing over the glass the ingredients to add to the salad.
When we finally got our orders (getting close to the 20 minutes mark), we opened the disposable bowls and started to dig in. In our order, we had the side rotisserie sweet potatoes, boho flock salad and half chicken. In terms of the sweet potatoes, I couldn't taste the hint of lime suggested. Otherwise, it was just your regular sweet potatoes. I wonder if they were cooked under the rotisserie chicken, that is, to take advantage of the chicken drippings... As for the salad, overall, it was OK. For the cost, of the full salad, ($11.50), there was something lacking. As for the chicken, it was OK but I felt it needed a bit seasoning.
Overall, I felt it was a bit overpriced but, then again, given the location, one could do a lot worst.
As a side note, regarding the line of chicken "naturally raised without hormones or antibiotics", Canadian Food Inspection Agency states that 'A claim like "fed no antibiotics" may imply that the animal was raised without the use of antibiotics, when, in fact, the animal may have received antibiotics through injection or spraying'. Likewise, Chicken Farmers of Canada have notes regarding use of hormones (illegal in Canada since 1965 as per their site) and antibiotics....
Read moreCame here for a late lunch on a Sunday. We were advised that there was no rice, falafels, roasted veggies or sweet potato available. We also noticed there were no chickens roasting in the display oven. Weird, but ok. I ordered the soba noodles and I couldn’t finish my meal. My dish was swimming in sauce. If I didn’t read the menu, I would’ve mistaken it for soup. I couldn’t taste any of the vegetables, all I could taste was the SAUCE. I never like to complain at restaurants, but I had to ask the girl at the front to remake my dish with dressing on the side. She graciously remade my dish, but it was still extremely underwhelming. The mushrooms tasting sour was really off putting. My friend who ordered the chicken sandwich said something tasted off about it. Maybe the chicken wasn’t fresh? Anyways, we all agreed it was a terrible meal. I definitely won’t be trying Flock again. The only reason for the two stars is that the service was nice, otherwise I would’ve given...
Read moreI want to like this place since it is next door and healthy. But I have had a slew of issues that have propelled me to strike it from my list of go-tos. Most recently, I walked in 20 minutes before close and was told that 3/4 of the things I wanted were unavailable because it was so close to the end of the day. It didn’t seem like they were “out” of these items; they just didn’t want to make them available out of sheer laziness. I simply do not understand businesses that do this. If you are open until 9, the customer should have access to your full menu offering until 9. On other occasions, Ritual orders have been fulfilled incorrectly (ie missing chicken from the salad, which comes at a handsome premium). As others have said, it is also overpriced. Staff are hit and miss but surly more often that not....
