WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! This was the most UNDERWHELMING food I’ve had in a long time. I just got back from dining there tonight and I’m in shock of how bad it was. Let’s begin with the good. We were seated right away by a friendly host. Our reserved table was set and waiting (albeit it was a Monday night so not busy). Our server was friendly and professional. She wasn’t overbearing, but attentive and kept our water glasses full etc. The ambiance was nice, particularly the entrance and bar area. Music was pretty good and not too loud. Washrooms we’re clean. Now for the bad. The food was so bad. Under seasoned, overpriced, small portions. The one saving grace was the rock shrimp which was delicious, but a small portion. We only ordered that one app between the three of us because we wanted to order several of the shareable main dishes and possibly a dessert. The lobster noodles was a huge fail!!! The noodles were a bit too tough and they were COLD! But somehow the lobster was hot. Maybe the noodles just sat there waiting for the lobster or something. The taste if it had been warm would have been mediocre at best. Small pieces of lobster on a large plate of noodles. Crazy overpriced. The recommended oxtail was 2 large pieces and one smaller piece. The meat was tender but seasoning was just not it. Underwhelming and just under seasoned…. And the price for what you got is astronomical. How can you justify $65+ for 3 pieces of oxtail?? Now for the worst… the short ribs which also came recommended by server. For $90 we expected tasty and a shareable portion. The portion was small, but when it arrived at the table it looked so delicious that I wasn’t even concerned about the portion. It was fall off the bone tender and just looked so succulent and juicy. But then once you take a bite. THERE IS NO FLAVOUR. Just an optical illusion that looks delicious. The entire middle portion was just fat, no meat. Not edible. 2 of us ate around it and the other refused to eat the bland meat. A small bowl of coconut rice that would cost $4 at a Thai restaurant was $12. Hot sauce that is usually complimentary cost us $8 because we weren’t sure which one to order and we weren’t given an opportunity to try them and decide so ordered 2. Also. It took FOREVER for food to get served. No idea why given it wasn’t busy. And there was no apologies for the wait or even asking if we would like to order a drink or something. We just sipped water for over an hour. We decided against the dessert because the rest was so bad we didn’t wanna chance it. We didn’t even order any drinks and it was over $100 per person plus tip. That wouldn’t be an issue if it was tasty food at least. But it wasn’t. We paid our bill and left without complaint because we were celebrating a birthday and didn’t want a fuss, but it feels like we just had the biggest ripoff ever. If you’re someone who values taste over ambiance, this restaurant isn’t for you. If you know and expect Jamaican/Caribbean flavours, this place doesn’t deliver. There are several restaurants in the city that have a great ambiance and where taste and quantity match up with the menu price, but this isn’t it.

For me, a restaurant’s a hit when I’m already planning on who I can return with during my first meal. Such was the case with Miss Likklemore’s, one spoon of the sock-you-in-the-mouth rice from the crab XO ($62) and I was hooked. If risotto made sweet love to a tropical gumbo, perhaps this is would be their love child. To say it’s flavourful is an understatement: there’s a rich savouriness, hits of tangy spice from pickled chilis, a sweet tropical essence from pineapple (?) and toasted coconut chips, and a hit of freshness from the occasional cilantro. If Miss Likklemore’s was a real person, I sense she wouldn’t care about etiquette. The jerk chicken ($35) is carved but served bone-in so that those who are dainty can stick with the hunks of tender breast meat, but the real chicken fans will gladly grab onto the drumstick, thigh, or the ultra-flavourful wing. There wasn’t a dry portion on the bird and the flavours were bang on – a subtle spice that builds and lingers on the tongue but not overly pungent. If you want an extra boost of flavour, more gravy is included to douse and dip. Given the oxtail ($65) is swimming in gravy, it somewhat resists getting cold. Yet, you’ll want a few friends to order this sizeable dish as the pieces of beef are huge and meaty, the size of a short rib, cooked just to the point of tender without being overly soft. Still, after some of the more flavourful dishes, I did find the oxtail blander in comparison… ideally, this would be served with a hot sauce so diners could amp up the flavour on the gravy. And it’s a sauce you won’t want to waste so make sure to order a side of fragrant coconut rice ($12). Of all the dishes, only the fried snapper ($75) disappointed. While it was beautifully presented and the deboned fillets were cooked to flakey perfection, it was so heavily seasoned that the saltiness gave it a bitter tone. Ultimately, I had to scrape the snapper’s flesh out of the breading to enjoy it. Even then, I hardly needed the escovitch dipping sauce, the fish’s flesh already salty enough, indicating how much seasoning was used on the batter that it’d seep through so thoroughly. On both weeknight visits, the service was attentive and top-notch, dishes arrive at a good clip without feeling overly rushed. If I had one complaint, it’d be nonchalant attitude to criticism. After each dish was presented, our server would give us ten minutes then stop by to see how things were tasting – us raving about how good it is, of course. Except for the fried snapper where I commented how overly salted it was that it’s barely edible. Disappointingly, there wasn’t a reaction… no “sorry to hear about that, I’ll let the chef know”, no offer for a replacement, nada. In my opinion, if a restaurant’s not ready to right a wrong, they shouldn’t bother asking for feedback to start.

This dinner was the food highlight of our Toronto trip. Amazing! From the service, upscale lounge like vibes and decor, mood lighting, open/peek through kitchen to see as the chefs were cooking and of course the food made this a top dining experience. Our server (Jules I believe is her name) was the best! She was extremely attentive, gave good vibes and recommendations as people were trying to make meal decisions, warm and friendly, and really made the night special in allowing us to have two birthday desserts as I was celebrating my birthday and so was another friend in our group . All of the staff were extremely polite, friendly and welcoming actually, with someone (I believe a manager) coming over to make sure we were having a good experience once or twice during our dining experience. Now to the food. Because I saw reviews about it - and I love me some good seafood - I ordered the Fried Snapper. When I typically order this from Jamaican places, it is usually made escoveich or stewed down with the vegetables. This was different but still felt familiar because the vegetables were still escoveich but on the side and, of course, the snapper was completely fried with some fillet pieces fried and placed on top of the whole snapper. It was delicious! Well seasoned, nice crispy. The vegetables were cooked well also and the Debbie's hot pepper sauce has a nice kick to it - I like spicy foods, so choose to order that or any of the pepper sauces at your own risk . I had to orders of the Likklemore Punch which is their version of a rum punch and babyyyy, I was not disappointed! The rum was rumming but not overpowering in liquor taste - but you know liquor is there lol. And the dessert was - literally and figuratively - the icing on the cake for an amazing dining experience. Me and the other birthday girl ordered desserts to compliment one another - the Miss Paula's Carrot Cake and the Rum Raisin Ice Cream. The ice cream was also giving good amounts of rum to it and the cake was moist and tasty. Wonderful food, good music and vibes and excellent service... Highly recommend checking them out!

I’ve been wanting to come and try Miss Likklemore’s since it opened and my best friend planned a birthday dinner for a party of 8. I was so excited to try it after hearing people rave about it only to be disappointed.. Also for a restaurant on King St. I was expecting it to be more upscale especially with the aesthetics.

My friend and I were first to arrive and were seated first. As my server who didn’t introduce herself approached the table greeting my friend and I asking if we wanted water, my friend had asked for the pitcher to be left at the table. She didn’t say anything and left seemingly annoyed that we even asked for it in the first place.

As our party began to slowly come in, 3 of the people that were supposed to be there cancelled last minute. We were asked probably 4 times regarding if the other people were still attending. It seemed like they needed the plates for another table or they were annoyed that the rest of the party didn’t show up.

Eventually without confirming or letting us know they took the plates away. From the time that we began to place our orders, our server who seemed to be West Indian was rushing us throughout the night as if they couldn’t wait for us to leave. From the moments she refilled our water glasses and randomly slamming it back onto the table, to the little comments she made when serving us, she gave off a very bad energy and made the atmosphere very tense & the whole table felt it. At the end the waitress didn’t bring out a dessert with happy birthday on it for her either which was even a bigger disappointment especially on her special day & knowing it was. We overheard & saw another party singing happy birthday with a birthday dessert and candle. She didn’t make my friend feel special on her special day at all.

The only nice interactions we had were from a female bartender and a male server who brought us birthday shots for the table.

When my best friend had called the restaurant to speak to the supervisor, she asked if it would be an appropriate time to chat in regards to the experience she had & more so the service provided. The person who answered the phone was Santana the AM who said it was a busy time and my friend had responded with no problem, what is a better time to call back to speak upon the issue. My friend just reiterated what she wanted to speak about & following up with an email and not knowing she was still on the phone and not muted, she hears Santana talking to her co-worker, “ I just told her that it’s rush hour it’s too busy but now she’s telling me the whole story.” My friend stayed quiet on the line and heard the line go quiet and Santana says sorry I think something happened to the phone, I was just saying it’s rush hour right now and I can give you my email to follow up the conversation through there.

After the assistant manager emailed my friend back and cc’d Aaron the general manager on it he didn’t reach out to her personally at all. If this is how the assistant manager is behaving, I can only imagine the reason why their staff is a providing this type of service and has this kind of attitude as well. They don’t seem to care about providing good customer service at all.

All in all, if you want good quality Caribbean food this is not the place for you. Everything on the menu is very overpriced and under seasoned especially for the prices...

This should’ve been a 5 star review but sadly…sadly….it isn’t. I booked a reservation weeks in advance for an early (6:30pm) anniversary dinner. I chose this place amongst the rest for various reasons. It was a surprise for the hubby, and I was so looking forward to having the oxtail. Shortly after placing our order, the waiter advised that they ran out of oxtail. I was baffled because they just opened at 5pm. I don’t eat seafood, so my only option was the jerk chicken or lamb. We ordered the jerk chicken which is not a novelty to me as we have that all the time. I wanted something we don’t normally get to eat.

The service was impeccable! The waiter was very apologetic and gave us complimentary drinks. We were seated promptly at 6:30pm and were immediately asked if we wanted to start with water. Our drinks were served shortly thereafter, and we had our food order placed within 13min. I indicated on my reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, and three different staff came up to us to say congratulations. That was lovely.

The ambiance, atmosphere, and music are on point. This is spot where you can hang out with your girls, a couples date, or even a first date.

The food: we had the patties, doubles, jerk chicken, coconut rice, Mac and Pie, and carrot cake. If you manage your expectation on the doubles (don’t think authentic Trini doubles: the Bara was too thick, and the channa was not dripping with the curry and Chandon Beni), then you’ll be ok. The jerk seasoning was ok as well. The coconut rice, Mac and Pie, and patties were great. The carrot cake…to die for. That’s a must!

Price point: it’s expensive for the portions you get. The table next to us miraculously had oxtail. It’s 4 pieces for $65. While I was willing to pay for that, I’m glad we didn’t. That is highway robbery there. Don’t go to this restaurant if you’re not willing to pay the high price point. With the the high price point, I do have a certain expectation and with that, I expect them to not run out of food after an hour and 43min into dinner service.

Will we go back? Unfortunately not. It took us an hour to get downtown and I’m just not willing to pay this kind of money for uncertainty with food.

Update: October 2024

Changing this review from 3* to 5*. I noticed that they updated their menu, decreasing the price of oxtail, added a brunch menu, and added burger option. I casually mentioned this to my husband who then decided to take a chance and take me there for my birthday. It did not disappoint this time around.

Firstly, we finally got the oxtail and while it’s still pricey at $44 (it used to be $65), it was SO worth it. You have to share this dish because the portion is SO large (not a complaint at all). Pair that with the coconut to experience a burst of flavours. We also shared the oxtail beef burger and my goodness, the best burger I have ever had and that says ALOT. We paired that with the macaroni pie (it comes with plantain chips), and we were stuffed by the end of it. We had the patties for apps (that is a must) and carrot cake for dessert (the best ever).

By far my favourite dinner experience since Rome in 2017. It is expensive by the end of it but I don’t mind paying money for good food and...
