Clear menu, great organization and delicious Mexican food! Wilbur Mexicana on King St. West near Portland has vivid branding and good taco selections. During the pandemic, they have no dine-in but has a dedicated bar and organized system for Ritual and other delivery/pick-up apps.
When you walk into Wilbur, you'll see a big vivid yellow menu for their food and also handheld menus are available as well. For first-timers at Wilbur, there are menus at the door for you to take your time and read through. Service is fairly quick with a cashier to take your order (order under the yellow menu). You'll be given an order number and card indicator for staff to recognize to who to give the food. They also have a salsa bar that staff do not monitor for the "1 person/party at a time" rule. The staff are very nice and all your take out orders are packaged in brown bags. Heavily recommend using Ritual as you can order ahead and skip the line.
Food review based on Tacos: Usually for lunch, roughly 3 tacos should do if you don't want to overeat. They come as open-faced soft tacos and with a side of nachos. Depending on the taco you order, it could come with three different choices of tortillas (crispy corn, flour, or corn). We've tried the Grilled Avocado taco, Baja Fish taco, and Bulgogi Taco. The Grilled Avocado taco came with a 1/4 slice of avocado with pineapple-habanero, chipotle crema and cotija cheese. It was a generous amount of avocado (just the right amount for the tortilla and was a delicious combination with the pineapple-habanero. The Baja Fish taco came with beer-battered mahi-mahi, jicama slaw, pico de gallo, chipotle crema. Great choice, fish was battered and cooked not overly crispy but just the right balance between all the other ingredients without going too moist! The Bulgogi taco had Korean beef, jicama slaw, pear and sesame seed. Given that we've had Bulgogi at authentic Korean restaurants, this fusion taco was the real deal Although the Korean beef was not the usual bulgogi cuts, it still had the ingredient combinations. The taco was very delicious and would recommend it! There's still much more to try and we look forward to trying their other categories.
Also, take advantage of their salsa bar that ranges between 0-5000 to 1,000,000 Scoville scale of spice! There's a funny face symbol used to represent the spice level. Salsa bar has from mild to extra spicy: Pico de Gallo, Pineapple (Habenero), Green (Verde Crudo), Brown (Asada), Red (Suave), Orange (Habanero), and Ghost. There are limes at the very end of the salsa bar. They provide a ladle at each salsa offering and single-use small black containers for the salsa to go. Tip: roughly 2 limes fit into...

The Mexican corn!! I love their corn with that wonderful seasoning! The quesadillas are are also delicious too especially when it comes piping hot and the tortilla is lightly pan fried. The sauce is a great mix which makes it more flavourful.
I liked the baja fried fish tacos the most out of all the tacos because it had the right combination of garnishes and the tortilla is corn over flour. The bulgogi taco was a bit too sweet for my liking tho. It is flavorful and full of sauce but the marinade they used for that taco may be too much.
I also tried the avocado taco. It’s a grilled quarter piece of avocado in the tortilla. I would have liked it if it wasn’t that big of a chunk tho because although outside is grilled, inside is just plain old avocado. Having sliced a bit more thinner would have been nicer.
The mushroom taco is a good vegetarian alternative for tacos and comes with great flavour. Lots of mushrooms but it’s not some fancy mushrooms. Just regular mushrooms though.
The asada, pork and chicken tacos are always a good staple to have for tacos. They are cooked with a lot of flavours which are great!
LAST TIP?!
They have water for free so if you are fine with water as a refreshment, then don’t have to worry about ordering any other drinks. Quesadillas come with guacamole and chips on the side so no need to order more guacamole and chips as a snack! However tacos only come with chips, no complimentary guacamole - just something to...
Read moreWOW! THERES SO MANY PLACES TO GET TACOS FROM, WHAT MAKES WILBUR STAND OUT IS THEIR HOT SAUCE & SALSA BAR! LOTS OF FLAVOURS AND ENDLESS COMBINATIONS TO TOP OFF YOUR TACOS! EACH ORDER COMES WITH SOME NACHO CHIPS (THAT YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN SALSA CONCOCTION AND DIP!! ADD HOUSEMADE FRESH GUAC FOR $7). WE HAD 5 TACOS, 2 FISH, 1 BEEF, 1 CHICKEN & 1 AVOCADO.
FISH TACO 5/5 LIGHTLY BATTERED, CRISPY, PURPLE CABBAGE SLAW AND WE ADDED THE PINEAPPLE SALSA AND HABANERO HOT SAUCE.
CARNE ASADA (STEAK/BEEF) 5/5 GREAT FLAVORS! A BIT DRY, BUT THE PICO DE GALO HELPS! LOVED THE CRISPY ONIONS ON TOP!
UNORIGINAL (GRILLED CHKN) 5/5 ALSO A BIT DRY AND OVER COOKED BUT THE SEASONING IS REALLY GOOD. WE ADDED THE VERDE AND SAUVE HOT SAUCES.
GRILLED AVOCADO 4/5 INSTEAD OF A BIG FAT CHUNK, I THINK 2 SLIGHTLY SMALLER PIECES WOULD BETTER AND LOOK MORE AESTHETICALLY APPEALING. ALSO, I FEEL LIKE IT LACKED FLAVOUR. YES, YOU CAN LOAD UP ON THE HOT SAUCES AND SALSAS BUT A PINCH OF SALT/PEPPER WOULDVE ROUNDED IT OFF NICELY. OR SHAKE ON SOME TAJIN (CHILI LIME SALT SEASONING). IM SURPRISED THEY DIDNT HAVE TAJIN OR INCORPORATED ANY INTO THEIR SALSA BAR OR TACOS.
OVERALL, WE LOVED IT AND WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK TO TRY THE REST...
