I celebrated my b-day at this terrible place and, thanks to the managers and security people, it was a nightmare!
1st - I had a guest list then all my guests shouldn't pay if they arrived until 9.30pm. However, they charged 5 of them claiming that there was no guest list. As my friends told me, I talked to the manager as soon as I got there and he said me that I didn't have the guest list. Then I showed him the confirmation e-mail, he got his paper to check and guess what??? My list was there! The first one. He didn't even checked it to deliberately "steal" my friends!
2nd - at around 9.30 / 10pm they usually change the layout of the place so people have more room to dance. I was with my friends in one of the tables which should be moved, but I didn't know that because it was my first night at that TERRIBLE place. They suddenly started to take away all my friend's food without saying a word. We didn't understand anything. Then they started to push the table very rudely and aggressively, hitting the people, including me. Then I got mad and started to yell at them that they could talk to people and that they didn't need to use violence like that. I got really angry and if it weren't for my friends I'd have left that RIDICULOUS place.
There was a server who was extremely friendly and started to tell the same things to this security guy, who were supposed to keep people safe and not attack them, but he didn't care. I went to talk to the manager and she went there with me to explain what had happened. Then I guess that the worst thing happened. The manager, who should be a reasonable person, told me "I guess you are not happy here, you should leave", which I replied "Your security attacks me and my friends, I complain to you and you say I'm the one who is wrong and should leave?". As he saw I was nervous he asked me to show who was the person who had done that, which I did, but he didn't give a damn, which explained to me why they are so aggressive at that place. There was another guy, who might be another manager (probably subordinated to the first one I talked to) who decided not to charge for my friend's food (obviously because they didn't have the chance to eat) and gave them some free beers. I'm disgusted till now and I'll definitely suing this bar! I've got a lot of witnesses and I'm looking for a lawyer tomorrow! DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! AVOID THIS...
Read moreWell, bless me, barnacles, if it ain't the Blarney Stone Pub in Gastown. I'll tell ye what I think of that fine establishment as a salty old sea dog who's seen his fair share of ports o' call.
'Tis a fine lookin' pub to be sure, all wood paneling and high ceilings like the hull of a ship. Makes a body feel right at home. As soon as ye open the door, ye be hit with the smells of ale and whisky and the bouncers cologne like the contents of Davy Jones' locker. Might make a landlubber seasick, but to me, it's the sweet aroma of adventure.
The patrons in there are a right motley crew too - locals and tourists and possibly a few sailors. All swappin' tales and news from far-off places. Why I heard tell of gold in the Klondike and icebergs bigger than me own ship! A man could spend all day soakin' up the atmosphere and learn more than any book.
As for the drinks, they be plentiful and strong rum. The Guinness is as dark and creamy as the inky sea by night, and the whisky goes down yer gullet like a roaring gale. It's a mite pricey for this old salt used to cheap grog, but no man ever went thirsty in the Blarney Stone, at least not for long! FYI, they do except Spanish doubloons.
Aye, it's a fine pub and no mistake. A body could do far worse than while away an evening in its lee, yarning with new mates and old. I'll be sure to make the Blarney Stone me home port whenever Vancouver Bay hails me again. It's got as much character and history as the Pequod her...
Read moreTook a couple of friends, from out of town, to Blarney Stone on Friday night (June 30, 2023). It was their first time going there. I ordered a round of shots and a water for myself because I was DD. We get our shots from the bartender and one of our friends placed her shot on the countertop while we were waiting to "cheers" each other. The bartender was wiping the counter and accidentally knocked over her shot. We had politely told the bartender what had happened, but he denied it and then proceeded to ignore us for the next few minutes. We flagged the other bartender down to let him know what had happened and that we'd just like a simple fix of him to replace it. The other bartender talked to his co-worker and then proceeded to ignore us as well. When we kept trying to simply talk to him, the bartender gave us attitude and said that his co-worker didn't do anything. When I shook my head in disappointment at the lack of accountability and customer service, he gave us more attitude and was acting like he wanted to start a fight because I simply shook my head in disappoinment. Blarney Stone is this how you treat your customers? We were polite the whole time through, but this experience left a poor taste in our mouths. The place itself is fun and amazing, but some of the staff need a lesson in how to treat...
