I can't help but feel Japadog has been dehyped over the years. They've got reviews posted on the cart as a "must-try-before-you-die" and "best of the decade 2000-2009". They haven't really changed or stepped up their game since I'd first tried them a decade ago - that's why they don't have a review posted for "best of the decade 2010-2019".
I also really hated how they treated the guy who ordered after me. I heard him clearly ordered the one with avocado, but they gave him a fairly plain beefdog. The customer was telling me how exctied he was about finally getting to try Japadog after seeing it on Bourdain (which I was too). The sweet man was too shy to ask for it and I egged him on. He finally told them, and they just told him that he ordered a beefdog. They just gaslit him! Just fix the order! Who cares what they thought they heard? Apologize and redo it - charge him the difference if you have to; just make sure he's happy. He said it was fine and walked away heartbroken. The staff that day clearly didn't care and really, for a $6-$8 dog, a little bit of customer recovery should definitely be part of...
Read moreNot the cheapest dog in the world, not even close (a combo with small bag of chips and can of pop can run you into the double digits). BUT, it can definitely be ranked as one of the best. They emphasize the sausages, but it's their sauce and toppings that makes them special for for me. Various combos of teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, seaweed, sauteed onions, Japanese dried fish flakes, among other condiments make up the different flavors to choose from. Just don't expect ketchup, mustard, nor relish... I've never asked, but I don't think it's even carried at their stands. Their locations can be found in major cities around the world, and displayed at each one is photographic evidence of famous patrons... everyone from news anchors to Ice Cube and Anthony Bourdain. If you've never had a Japadog, I'd say it's definitely worth going out of your way to try one. For me, it's always a treat I look forward to when going downtown. As an aside: if you find yourself at the Burrard/Smithe location and decide to feed the pigeons, they can, and will, get...

I’ve been coming to Japadog (899 Burrard) since 2010/2011, and it’s still one of my favorite food spots in the city! Their unique twist on North American beef hot dogs with Japanese flavors like teriyaki, miso, and crispy karaage: makes every bite fun and delicious.
I highly recommend the Karaage hot dog for its amazing crunch and the Hot & Spicy hot dog if you like a bit of heat. 🌭 The beef hotdogs are great (they can also make you a beautiful and tasty plain hotdog if you ask nicely❤️
