I took my close friend to Osaka Sushi on August 1st. I absolutely love Japanese food and eat sushi almost every week, but this was my friend’s first time trying it. I’ve already explored nearly all the sushi spots in Richmond and found my favorites there, and lately, I’ve started checking out places downtown to discover new go-tos near work—lol!

Our server, Yuri, was incredibly sweet and patient. Since I had to explain everything to my friend, it took us a little while to decide, but Yuri never rushed us. Throughout our visit, she checked in often to see if we needed anything else—more tea, more water—always with a smile. I really hope I get her again the next time I go, because Osaka Sushi has officially become one of my favorites! It did not disappoint.

We ordered the Crispy Roll, Ichiban Roll, Sockeye Salmon Sashimi, Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad, Spicy California Roll, and Spicy Chopped Scallop Roll. Everything was delicious—definitely some of the best rolls I’ve had in Vancouver. My personal favorite was the Chopped Scallop, while my friend loved the Crispy Roll the most.

For "budget" sushi, this is a solid choice. The portions are generous, prices are low, service is super friendly, take out was made very quickly, and everything in the order was correct. But I also just wanted to acknowledge that the take out containers for the hot food were made entirely of paper, which means that it's compostable too. I really appreciate this. Most restaurants are using plastic-coated cardboard which then is just garbage most of the time. Honestly, I would even rather have their paper containers for the sushi but maybe they are using the plastic ones to be more aesthetically pleasing. Not sure. I will ask for paper next time and see. Cheap sushi in Vancouver is now almost comparable in price to fast food burger combos (maybe a few dollars higher. Depends on what you get) so really, I'd rather have sushi here than McD's generally. And this place is a lot better in quality than many other cheap sushi places around town. If you get sushi though, you are using more plastic than a burger...

Given that this is an area where there are about several options in walking distance, a sushi place needs to be great to make a dent in the market. I’m happy to say Osaka delivers, at least on the food I’ve ordered off their immense menu.

My wife and I recently ordered food to go from here, which was a mix of tempura rolls, appetizers, yakisoba and sashimi. The food turned out great, and was appropriately seasoned and prepared. Overall, we are very happy with what we end up with, and it’s why we keep going back.

I appreciate that the staff are so welcoming when I arrive. I think their customer service is great in that sense, though we have waited more than usual when seated once or twice. Not deal breakers. They’re very accommodating with kids in the restaurant as well.

Overall, a cozy spot with great food and service. There might be better out there for this dish or that, but if you’re satisfied, then what else...

Pretty good value and Sushi place. The Maki & Roll section is a good price but basic in flavor. The Aburi price of 15 for six pieces is on par with higher end Aburi Sushi locations but the taste was a step below from those places. The value at Osaka Sushi is the Special Roll section and especially if you like the ones they have listed on their specials of the day outdoor chalkboard menu. Crazy Roll will delight anyone who wants a fried option and Black Ninja was really good. Most prawn specialty rolls are good and the Volcano Roll might be just a bit too much sauce and stuff. The service is always so darn good and the atmosphere is so pleasant to make you feel at home. I would recommend Osaka Sushi to anyone as a value location if you use the Special roll section and there are a lot of rolls within that area of the menu.

The spicy salmon sashimi and salmon oshi were particularly outstanding - the flavors were incredibly fresh and delicious. I highly recommend trying them out! The service was excellent, with the staff being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were able to provide great recommendations and answer any questions I had, making my dining experience even better. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also exceptional. It had a traditional and authentic Japanese feel, which added to the overall experience of dining on high-quality sushi. Overall, I had an exceptional experience at Osaka Sushi. From the incredibly fresh and delicious food to the excellent service and fantastic atmosphere, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a top-notch sushi experience.
