October 2024 Update:
Every single time I come to Winnipeg Ibeat here, or if I have to work through lunch I get takeout.
Every single time it is excellent - absolutely beautiful and delicious food. It feeds more than the body - it feeds the soul
The portions are substantial, and I rarely finish and often need a nap afterwards.
Try the hot sauce - even if you need to apply it with a toothpick!
September 2023 Update:
Famena's is still absolutely amazing and beautiful! The food is delicious and the portions are more than generous! The hot sauce is absolutely life changing! Definitely worth trying at least a dozen times!
April 2023 Update:
The hotter sauce is spectacular - definitely hotter, definitely worth the price. Food continues to be outstanding. Service is always more than friendly, one always feels very welcome and at home. I always eat here at least once when in town.
Don't let the location throw you off, it is truly outstanding!
November 2022 Update:
Continues to absolutely love this place. Do yourself a favour and buy a bottle, or twelve of their hot sauce. If you're truly brave - try their Hotter Sauce.
December 2021 update:
This place is the one restaurant in Winnipeg that I always get food from when in town. So happy it has survived the lockdowns. The food is just as amazing as always, and the owners are so friendly and welcoming it will make you feel right at home.
The hot sauce isn't your run of the mill "oooh that is spicy" stuff. This is the kind of hot sauce that has you stripping naked and having conversations with the gods. It is the stuff of heroes and legends - a hot sauce to separate the weak from the courageous. A hot sauce that will alter your reality. I love it!
Wow!
First time trying this place. I was in town for business looking for something different than the usual chicken something or other with fries/salad.
The food was spectacular - I had the chicken, potato, and chickpea roti.
The homemade hot sauce blew my socks off. Use it with caution, but...
Read moreThis place is a gem. Don't let it's appearance fool you. It might look like a hole in a wall but the best restaurants usually are. A mom and pa style diner. I tried it one day and had to go back the next, as it was so good. First day I had the patty and a chicken roti with pea and potato. Second day I had the lamb with pea roti and the pea soup. The soup was excellent with the cuman seeds, adds unbelievable flavor. The roti is top notch, the best I have ever had. Everything is fresh and authentic. They even have some Caribbean style juices in the cooler which help wash down the homemade hot sauce which is definitely a five star in itself. Bonus you can buy the hot sauce. It was pricey, but the jar size they give you is huge and the hot sauce you will use sparingly. It has so...

With Covid issues, it had been some time since I’ve treated myself to a roti. And. Today as with every other visit over the years - this fare never disappoints! Consistently delicious. Always savoury. This 1 roti is 2 meals for this gal. And next day the taste & flavour remain just as yummo as when served fresh! I always get the chicken & veg roti, as in picture. Bring a friend & dine in or order take out! Find this tiny little gem of a restaurant - it has a NY neighborhood vibe that I love...these two good people make really...
