Sizzling Steaks and Patagonian Warmth: A Review for La Tapera Parrilla in Puerto Natales
After a grueling day hiking the windswept trails of Torres del Paine, nothing hits quite like a proper parrilla – and La Tapera delivered an unforgettable feast that turned our weary legs into happy sighs. Tucked into a rustic log cabin on the edge of Puerto Natales, this gem feels like a cozy refuge from the Patagonian chill, complete with a crackling wood-burning fireplace on those frosty evenings. It's the kind of place where locals and travelers mingle over plates piled high with grilled goodness, making it an instant must-visit for anyone craving authentic southern Chilean flavors.
We arrived around 7 PM on a crisp September night, greeted by the smoky aroma of meats charring over open flames that wafted through the door. The interior is all warm woods and soft lighting, with subtle folklore tunes playing in the background – a nod to the cross-border parrilla traditions that make this spot shine. Our server, a friendly local,, was a highlight: attentive without hovering, he guided us through the menu with insider tips on pairings, like a bold Carmenère to cut through the richness of the meats.
La Tapera isn't just a meal; it's a love letter to Patagonia's rugged bounty, blending comfort food with elegance that leaves you plotting your next visit. Whether you're a meat-lover or just need a break from backpacker bites, this place earns every bit of its rep as one of Natales' top parrillas. 5/5 stars – head here post-hike, and...
Read moreI have been resoundingly impressed. I truly loved the meals (three) that I have had here - in the span of 72 hours in Puerto Natales. The staff are incredibly friendly and provide high quality service. The atmosphere is lovely - when it’s slower the ambiance feels quintessential to the food and when it’s busy it doesn’t feel packed. And the food, the food! The food is excellent. It starts with the delightfully simple bread, paired with a caramelized onion mayo and a delicious salsa. While I haven’t had the whole menu, over the course of my meals I tried the sirloin steak, the lamb stuffed pasta, the salmon carpaccio, and the salmon ceviche. All four were hands down - fantastic. Based on the quality of service and food - for such a reasonable price - I am sincerely astonished there is not a line out the door. My server Carlos (for two meals) was phenomenal- personable and...
Read moreFood was delicious and well priced for such quality! Exactly what I was looking for a nice dinner after a week of travelling :) As soon as I walked in was greeted by a very kind waiter who made the environment very welcoming. Unfortunately, we chose a table in a waitress’ section who seemed to not want to serve us. Never refilled our waters, never brought our appetizer, and didn’t make herself available for any questions or further ordering :/ Was a bit of a downer, but luckily the food was so good (especially the mushroom risotto) that we still...
